08:37 < ryuo_> question: how do you upgrade/install new packages once you install T2 to hard disk?
08:38 < rxr> right now from source, with Emerge-Pkg
08:38 < rxr> we plan to provide binary pools soon, as well
08:39 < ryuo_> i dont mind compiling
08:39 < ryuo_> :o
08:40 < ryuo_> if i change my compiler optimizations, is it possible to rebuild with one command the entire system?
08:41 < rxr> Emerge-Pkg would not do so by default
08:41 < rxr> but you could for it to do so with Emerge-Pkg -system -force or so I think
08:41 < rxr> ...could force it...

10:08 < mtr> perl is broken atm, fails in stage-1 since r26311: changing gcc -> $CC is harmful when cross compiling
10:09 < rxr> yes, I know
10:09 < mtr> would be better to use $HOSTCC
10:09 < rxr> though lars fixed others combinations
10:09 < rxr> not really
10:09 < rxr> we need to rework how perl is cross build
10:09 < rxr> using HOSTCC as sort of before the configuration was bogus anyway, as it detected based on host libs
10:09 < rxr> we even head stray failures on non T2 distribution builds due to detection bdb or other db setup that we have
10:10 < rxr> lars change fixed cross building on some ubuntu but break some of our own combinations :-(
10:10 < rxr> we reverted this in 7.0 already but I have a real rework for 1-perl on my TODO ...

17:45 < lars_> Anyone managed to build a recent version of openoffice for ppc (g3 or g4)? Are there chances that a build succeeds?
17:50 -!- unleaded [n=emte@66.183.8.167] has joined #T2
17:53 < rxr> hi lars_
17:53 < rxr> lars_: not on trunk
17:53 < rxr> lars_: trunk openoffice does not build
17:53 < rxr> I'm not sure if the 2.1 or 6.0 ooo was the last version that fully build (on ppc)
17:55 < rxr> I can test on the G5, as you appear to need it
17:55 < rxr> that's way faster than waiting for your G4 to crunch thru the code
17:58 < lars_> rxr: would be nice if you can try. Any version >= 2.0 would be a big improvement over the 1.2 that one can find on openoffice.org (refers to yellowdoglinux)
17:59 < rxr> oh - hm
17:59 < lars_> Pamela needs it for a project. At the office she is working for at the moment they use the window version.
18:00 < lars_> Seems that ubuntu ships 2.0. But I am not sure if I would be able to get the binary running on my t2 system...
18:05 < rxr> in theory that should run if your glibc and other libraries "are not too far of"
18:05 -!- unleaded__ [n=emte@66.183.8.167] has joined #T2
18:07 < rxr> lars_: I'll start a 6.0 build on the g5 later, as valentin will be back soon and using the G5 under the Other os X
18:07 < rxr> lars_: btw. I checked in your exact-image changes, today to have them around to work on
18:07 -!- emte [n=emte@66.183.8.167] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)]
18:13 < lars_> rxr: just noticed. The code is still really crude. And there where some changesets that are general fixes for exact-image, that should better have checked in separately.
18:15 < lars_> I started to play around a bit with different scanning strategies. Maybe I will reimplement it in a completely different way. But first a will play around a bit more with the existing code.
18:16 < rxr> I probably should commit the test images into the testsuite part of the repository
18:17 < lars_> rxr: Would be nice if you can give openoffice a try. In the meanwhile I try out the ubuntu binaries.
18:17 < rxr> btw. most needed types: code25, code39, code128 (B), ean14
18:17 < lars_> The testimages are really huge. 72 MB alltogether. Do you really want to have this in the main repository?
18:17 < rxr> well - they are in the already huge testsuite part of the repository
18:18 < rxr> but the point is (aside from automation later on) that they are shared by the people workin on the code
18:19 < lars_> I know. Yes I should implement at least code128 in the existing framework. Should be not to hard. Before thinking of a new implementation. upc-A/E and ean8/13 are mainly used in supermarkets.
18:20 < lars_> I shall join the familly dinner again. I am back later...

20:45 < rxr> lars_: I resaved all test barcodes with econvert - this saved some 15MB or so as the tiff files contained additional junk from Apple's Preview.app, like color calibration stuff
20:46 < rxr> I'll soon make the testsuite only readable by people with write access
20:46 < rxr> as having those cd backsides open to the public probably will bring lawyers to us, once again...
20:47 < rxr> (I also left out the barcodes that where not scanned by us, of course)
20:53 < rxr> oh - the barcode code on the ps3 was older, hm ?
20:54 < lars_> thanks, will merge this with my local repos. At the moment I am struggeling with gdb, seufz. "Failed to read a valid object file image from memory." Compiled with -O0 --ggdb. The binary works. Grrr.
20:55 < rxr> hm
20:55 < rxr> on the G4 ?
20:56 < rxr> hm
20:56 < rxr> do you like to commit some know good state ? as the PS3 version right now does not build
20:56 < rxr> (and I would need to work on some other part of exact-image right now :-)
20:57 < rxr> maybe I should have grabed the horsepower flavour :-)
21:05 < lars_> yes, try lars@horsepower:~/BarDecode/upstream.svn
21:07 < lars_> the directory contains .svn as well as .hg. svn is merged into hg. But not the other way around. The "svn-to-hg-synchronisation changesets" are marked as such in the hg history.
21:08 < lars_> You can either do "svn ci" to get it at once or cherry-pick by using "hg up ; svn ci -m 'message'".
21:12 < rxr> hm
21:13 < rxr> do you want to commit some "compiling state" ?
21:13 < lars_> that version should compile. I just compiled it.
21:14 < rxr> I did not tested, was more a you're the author kind of question .-)
21:21 < lars_> ok, I do.
21:23 < rxr> :-)

21:53 < rxr> moin moin tri
21:55 < tri> hi rene sorry i have no time this week for the t2 systems speech
21:55 < tri> we have to implement dfs till 4/5.11 :-)
21:55 < tri> and not everything is finished yet...
21:57 < rxr> :-(
21:58 < tri> novell is a bit funny
21:59 < tri> we will implement novell dfs because here are all fileservers running under netware
22:04 < rxr> netware ?
22:04 < rxr> such kind of DOS extender is still in production ?
22:05 < tri> yes, it is used for all kind of fileservice here - for about 40 TB
22:05 < tri> :-)
22:06 < rxr> unbelivable
22:07 < tri> yes and it just works - the netware admins here really like the novell linux idea but some functions they have or knowledge will just be lost when they will use novell linux
22:08 < tri> not because linux cann't do it just because novell linux is such a complicated yasty anything...
22:12 < rxr> the last time I touched Netware was 10 years ago ...
22:12 < rxr> ok - maybe just 9
22:12 < tri> :-)
22:12 < tri> but there are still full driver support for new ibm storage systems, tape libarys, etc...
22:14 < tri> and the central ldap server (15.000 users) here is also running as cluster service on 6 netware nodes > novell edirectory
22:16 < tri> and now the really cool thing novell will not any longer provide support for netware so every machine here with netware have to be switched to linux (ok, novell linux but it is still some kind of linux...)
22:20 < tri> hm http://software.twotoasts.de/?page=midori
22:21 < tri> looks interessting
22:23 < tri> http://gstaedtner.net/bilder/midori010.png
22:25 < rxr> yeah - started to package it for the fun, but not yet really finished
22:26 < rxr> (just the .desc meta info thrown into the reference builder for the next time I have free time)
22:26 < tri> ah cool :-)
22:26 < tri> firefox sucks sometimes

22:26 < rxr> tri: yeah - I use konqueror the whole days .-)
22:27 < rxr> ok, aside when I'm in OS X or tap my iPhone, but then it's still the wrapper KHTML underneath :-)
22:27 < tri> your iphone :-)

22:30 < tri> last week we have a problem with lotus notes and our notes admin told me that his contact at ibm just did a quick code review... - i thought yeah sure he do a quick notes code review and you have a iphone
22:30 < tri> but he was one of the ibm lotus notes c api developer and ok you have a iphone...
22:31 < tri> but you have paid for it ?
22:31 < rxr> yes, the regular price in US$ in an AT&T store in Florida
22:31 < rxr> but no, not me, my company :-)
22:34 < tri> http://rene.rebe.name/photos/?p=/USA/2007%20Florida%202/dsc01050.jpg :-)
22:34 < rxr> yes ?
22:34 < tri> look like they see really good c code :-)
22:34 < rxr> heh, not really
22:35 < rxr> and you do not want to know what they where looking at
22:35 < tri> hm they just were looking for shoes at ebay ?
22:35 < rxr> nope
22:37 < tri> a picture from you ?
22:37 < rxr> you really pressing it
22:38 < rxr> actually I just made neo and iphone photos for the linux mag today
22:38 < rxr> I probably should scp them to the hardware picture stream on that side
22:38 < rxr> plus the "berlin @ night" from the Bundestag just this weekend
