10:32 < koan> mpp: researchers already have been able to factor 15 with Shor's algorithm for a long time, this is just another hardware implementation
10:33 < koan> and no quantum computer has been able to factor a bigger number than 15, so I think we'll be secure for a long time :)
10:33 < koan> current quantum computers just don't scale well

10:58 < rxr> re
11:08 < mpp> hey
11:09 < mpp> maybe u can help me a sec with a probl
11:09 < mpp> ruby installs fine under t2
11:10 < mpp> but building extensions - that is ruby is used + make command
11:10 < mpp> even emerging on the build host
11:10 < mpp> the toolchain get's invoked like /TOOLCHAIN/......../make command not found
11:10 < mpp> this should not ever happen right !
11:10 < mpp> ?
11:11 < mpp> i am not quite sure if the root cause is in the ruby build process in the toolchain itself
11:11 < mpp> when ruby is build by Build-Target ...
11:12 < mpp> any help from anybody is very appreciated
11:12 < mpp> bottom line is that rubygems always breaks thing when the make command is called
11:13 < mpp> breaking all gems no matter what

12:20 < rxr> re
12:27 < mpp> hey rxr
12:28 < mpp> is there a difference between scripts/Config .... and ./scripts/Config.......
12:28 < mpp> i may have missed it in the past
12:29 < rxr> no, that should be the same
12:32 < koan> rxr: T2 has some X video and input drivers that are deprecated by new ones or not maintained anymore by upstream, what is your policy about this? remove them in T2?
12:32 < rxr> if they don't work anymore probably remove
12:32 < rxr> or patch to conform if they are usable
12:32 < rxr> e.g. the -mouse and -kbd one
12:33 < koan> no it's more about drivers like xf86-video-via that is deprecated by xf86-video-openchrome etc
12:33 < rxr> ah ok :-)
12:33 < rxr> yeah - eventually wipe one
12:33 < rxr> if that dust is more settled
12:34 < koan> and drivers like xf86-video-imstt that has not been ported to the new libpciaccess? most recent release is more than three years old
12:35 < rxr> wait and hope, or port ourselves :-)
12:35 < rxr> pciaccess porting usually is just a few lines ...
12:35 < rxr> I love to keep stuff working
12:35 < rxr> e.g. my G4 Cube at home, or my Sgi Octane etc.
12:35 < rxr> actually all this API/ABI breaking annoys me pretty much ...
12:35 < koan> ok, so the policy is to only remove drivers that have been officially deprecated by other ones?
12:36 < rxr> and is certainly why linux did not gain more momentum and many people still keep sticking to "works more these days(tm)" Windows ..
12:36 < rxr> koan: its more like removing only what does not work anymore and noone wants to take care of in t2
12:36 < rxr> so this is certainly "keeping longer than upstreams thinks people wanna use it"
12:37 < koan> hm ok I'm not up to the task of porting drivers :-)
12:37 < rxr> do you have hardware for the driver?
12:37 < rxr> or just want to clean up ?
12:37 < koan> just cleaning up, I see all those drivers fail to build here
12:39 < rxr> ic
12:39 < koan> my suggestion is then to remove xf86-video-i810 (deprecated by xf86-video-intel), xf86-video-via (deprecated by xf86-video-openchrome) and xf86-video-vga (deprecated by xf86-video-vesa)
12:39 < koan> all three don't build anymore
12:39 < rxr> hm - vga?
12:39 < koan> and have replacements
12:39 < rxr> should port and test in another hour
12:39 < rxr> -vga can do more than -vesa ...
12:40 < rxr> (am I the only one with 386 and 486 boards in the shelf?)
12:40 < koan> :)
12:40 < rxr> anyway, we still do have i810 in trunk?=
12:40 < rxr> thought that was renamed to -intel
12:41 < rxr> no i810 in trunk
12:41 < koan> oh then it was from an old build
12:41 < rxr> for the -via case I'm unbsure
12:41 < rxr> the openchrome does also not develop that quickly
12:41 < rxr> I want to wait some more to see which of the many forks stays alive ..
12:42 < koan> the via one doesn't build here
12:44 < koan> but a more pressing issue for me are cvs and bzip which both fail to build
12:44 < koan> bzip2
12:44 < rxr> cvs with getline?
12:45 < rxr> and bzip whith this strange "some attribute whatever could not be copied?"
12:45 < koan> indeed
12:46 < rxr> should review ASAP
12:46 < rxr> for cvs a patch is on the mailing list
12:46 < koan> I'm building on a T2 7.0 Xen domu
12:46 < rxr> and for bzip2 it should be more a warning as all was built and installed
12:47 < koan> I thought it was a warning, but the binary hasn't been built
12:47 < rxr> hm - btw. in my VM (kvm) trunk built bzip2 without this issue
12:47 < rxr> but it's running on an older 2.6.18 kernel
12:47 < rxr> I thought your bzip2 log was after build and copy
12:47 < rxr> ok - gotta go, hurry to get hair cut
12:47 < rxr> :-)
12:47 < rxr> cu later
12:47 < rxr> btw. I'm in holiday next week ...
12:48 < rxr> so maybe cu much later then ...
12:48 < rxr> by
12:48 < koan> ok
12:48 < koan> bye
12:48 < koan> ok it is built, but just not installed, maybe I can look into it myself today
