00:10 * Skapare figures rxr will not be back today, given the late hour in europe

01:07 < Skaperen> digitaloktay: TV ?
01:11 < digitaloktay_tv> looking television
01:11 < digitaloktay_tv> ;)#
01:12 < Skaperen> anything good on TV ?
01:12 * Skaperen is waiting for the digital transition so he can turn on his new digital TV
01:13 < digitaloktay_tv> on german tv http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remo_Williams:_The_Adventure_Begins
01:15 * Skaperen cannot get german TV in USA
01:16 * Skaperen would like to get some europe TV over here, preferrably scandinavian, german, or dutch
01:19 < digitaloktay_tv> Skaperen, use Zattoo
01:19 < digitaloktay_tv> http://zattoo.com/de
01:20 < digitaloktay_tv> http://zattoo.com/en/index english
01:23 < Skaperen> it says zattoo is not yet available in the united states ... so I'll need a relay in europe or something
01:24 < digitaloktay_tv> i think only german channels
01:25 < Skaperen> it lists quite many channels under the TV CHANNELS tab
01:26 < Skaperen> lots of german language channels listed under germany but not listed under norway
01:27 < Skaperen> 2 norwegian channels listed under norway but not under germany
01:27 < Skaperen> so there's no one place to get all channels
01:28 < Skaperen> seems silly why a network like NRK1 would deny letting someone carry their programs to other countries
01:29 < Skaperen> I was planning to rent a dedicated server in europe ... I'll just run a tunnel to it and the program will think it is running in that country

10:10 < Skaperen> ah, new packages
10:11 < Skaperen> ImageMagick upgraded from 6.4.8-9 to 6.4.8-10 ... but Gentoo still has it at 6.4.8-3
10:12 < rxr> :-)
10:13 < rxr> only 10 packages missing to break the 3200 barrier
10:14 < Skaperen> I've been comparing packages between T2 and Gentoo
10:14 < rxr> if you find something missing or outdated in t2 let me know
10:14 < rxr> or best the t2 list at t2@t2-project.org
10:14 < Skaperen> 6.4.8-10 isn't in the package archive, yet ... I'll guess that's just a matter of time until it replicates through
10:17 < Skaperen> maybe I should just set up another gmail account since email on my server is so messed up right now ... for the mailing list
10:18 < Skaperen> normally I do not subscribe to mailing lists on my main account, and my system of handling alternate email addresses for stuff like mailing lists is what I messed up
10:19 < rxr> ok - have to leave shortly for some bureaucracy
10:19 < rxr> cu then
10:19 < rxr> Skaperen: of course any account is fine, many use temp. addresses these days
10:19 < Skaperen> bye

17:23 < Baldzius> hey rxr
17:24 < Baldzius> *click*
17:25 < rxr> all in shop tested
17:25 < rxr> so far the best by magnitude where HP Mini 21xx and Sony VGN-P
17:26 < rxr> best keyboard, overall quality, form factor, display, etc.
17:26 < rxr> (case)
17:27 < rxr> (yes, this is an attempt to increase google awareness and guide people to t2 :-)
17:30 < Baldzius> for me the most important is the quality of screen
17:30 < rxr> yep
17:30 < rxr> I'll wait for the HP Mini 2140 with the HD screen (1360x768 pixels)
17:30 < Baldzius> especially hate glossy
17:31 < rxr> too bad that might be some other 6 months some people estimate
17:31 < rxr> yeah - I'm with you reg. the glossy "crap"
17:31 < rxr> too bad there are few offerings these days with matte screen
17:40 < Baldzius> i don't even understand why they are putting that crap into production
17:40 < Baldzius> only what comes to my mind that it costs less
17:40 -!- digitaloktay [n=debian@dslb-088-064-162-121.pools.arcor-ip.net] has quit ["Verlassend"]
17:40 < rxr> vibrant colors for supid people to purchase it in the shops ...:-(
17:41 < Baldzius> hehe
17:41 < rxr> you know those average freaks that even still keep using Windows ...
17:41 < Baldzius> intel inside stupido outside
17:41 < Baldzius> this might be also a case, people are looking for shiny things
17:42 < rxr> yeah, really bad
17:42 < Baldzius> and doesn't matter that it harms the sigth
17:42 < rxr> full ack
17:42 < rxr> too bad Apple jumped on that bandwagon either
17:42 < Baldzius> i was able to work with a glossy screen for 10 min or so
17:43 < rxr> so my historic "Apple built quality choice" no longer is an option :-(((
17:43 -!- digitaloktay [n=debian@dslb-088-064-162-121.pools.arcor-ip.net] has joined #t2
17:45 < Skaperen> there's a reason portable displays tend to be more glossy instead matte
17:47 < Baldzius> which is?
17:49 < Skaperen> matte display has to have the matte surface on the outside to make it work ... on the inside would still be glossy on the outside ... then for the pixels to be distinct with matte, the covering over the pixels has to be very thin
17:50 < Skaperen> such a thin surface is much easier to damage ... a thicker surface is used for portable devices
17:51 < Skaperen> but the thicker surface, if made in matte form, would be very fuzzy and diffuse the pixels with adjacent ones
17:52 < Skaperen> the fix is to use a covering composed of strands of fibers running from back to front, but this is still very expensive
17:52 < Skaperen> large fibers would require precise alignment with the LCD matrix ... that's hard to manufacture
17:53 < Skaperen> small fibers (many dozens per pixel) is very expensive to make
17:53 < Skaperen> the other fix is anti-reflective multi coating like that on expensive camera lenses
17:55 < rxr> ah interesting :-9
17:55 < rxr> too bad glossy indeed hurt my eyes
17:55 < rxr> and susan's for that matter
17:55 < Skaperen> does for me, too
17:56 < rxr> her iMac on the desk is soo bad, that she now works with a matte Samsung TFT attached ...
17:56 -!- Skapare [n=phil@c-24-131-205-87.hsd1.wv.comcast.net] has left #t2 []
17:56 < rxr> quite a waste unfortunatly
17:56 < rxr> as soon as new Mac mini's are out she'll get a mini and this iMac goes off to ebay ...
18:07 < Skaperen> rsync://dl.t2-project.org/t2-mirror-src/7.0 vs. rsync://dl.t2-project.org/t2-mirror-src/8.0 ... which is used by http://dl.t2-project.org/source/t2-7.0-rc2.tar.bz2
18:08 < Skaperen> are the new packages part of 8.0 or part of 7.0 ?
18:09 * Skaperen is trying to understand the version numbers going on here and sees that there might be 2 levels of development that are active
18:12 < rxr> new packages are in trunk, which will become 8.0
18:12 < rxr> 7.0 is only security and bug-fix maintained
18:12 < rxr> 7.0-rc2 will use the 7.0 tree
18:12 < rxr> http://rene.rebe.name/2009-02-02/hp-mini-2140-and-sony-vaio-p-a-possible-apple-macbook-ultra-portable-substitute/
18:15 < Skaperen> so 7.0 is a branch in svn
18:16 < rxr> yes, it's also a branch in SDVN
18:16 < rxr> SVN
18:16 < rxr> http://svn.exactcode.de/t2/branches/
18:17 -!- RayMan72 [n=radjis@dhcp-077-250-081-057.chello.nl] has joined #t2
18:25 < Skaperen> so if there are updates to 7.0 they will be made in that branch
18:25 < rxr> yep
18:25 < Skaperen> I guess I should co 7.0 as well (already have trunk)
18:27 < Skaperen> I'm still just working on arranging things ... considering not a lot of available space on my hard drives right now (have 2 750G SATA to be installed and planning to order 4 1TB Firewire externals)
18:32 < Skaperen> does the wireless work on Linux on the HP Mini 2133 / 2140 ?
18:32 < Skaperen> e.g. is a proper driver available
18:33 < rxr> I only quickly checked them and did not particularly checked out the wifi
18:33 < Skaperen> I've been looking at the Acer Aspire One
18:35 < Skaperen> I don't usually need a portable, but when I do, the smaller size would be important
18:35 < rxr> on the existing Aspire I find the screen too small, especially considering the big border around the screen wasting space in my pocket while having to endure the rather tiny screen
18:36 < Skaperen> my brother went with Acer Aspire One (with Windows XP) because he needs the small size and light weight in his job (pilot for major airline)
18:36 < rxr> there will be a 10" Aspire One I read that "fixes this"
18:36 < rxr> yeah - my mother in law also got one
18:36 < Skaperen> "fixes this" ? ... what fix is needed? the screen size?
18:36 < rxr> had to setup her Windows XP (ieek) last xmas
18:37 < rxr> yeah - same form factor and weight with display without huge bezel around the screen
18:37 < Skaperen> ah, OK, so same physical size and probably nearly the same weight, but more efficient use of screen space
18:38 < rxr> yep
18:39 < Skaperen> would like to see a camera put in right above the screen ... so that it takes pictures of whoever is using it and sends them to my server
18:40 < rxr> :-)
18:45 < Skaperen> one thing that attracts me to T2 is that I should be able to make a nice setup for my workstation and servers, as well as using the same to build for some embedded platforms
18:45 < Skaperen> I used to work for an embedded Linux company and their setup, which was fine for embedded platforms, was wimpy for workstations and servers
18:54 < rxr> yes, that's how we us in in our company: everywhere
18:55 < rxr> while initially the code base started as pure "desktop/server" source distributions the cross build maturity we gather over the last decade is pretty neat
