09:33 < operativo> !> (Try enabling xtrace in the config to track an error inside the build system.)
09:33 < rxr> how did you try to build it ß
09:33 < operativo> -> $root/var/adm/logs/5-apache.out -> 5-apache.err
09:34 < operativo> I need a custom target with apache installed
09:34 < rxr> so you started a new target?
09:34 < operativo> so i add the rule "x apache" in config menu
09:34 < rxr> probably only added apache, and forgot apr and apr-util
09:35 < rxr> well - for targets there is not additional dependency testing done by t2, as most target use very custom stuff
09:35 < rxr> only in-system Emerge checks deps ...
09:35 < rxr> so you need to add apr and apr-utils, likewise
09:36 < operativo> so, I should create a default target, install it on my machine and then try to use Emerge-Pkg on the new machine to get the packages I need (with satisfied dependencies)?
09:39 < mpp> afk
09:39 -!- mpp is now known as mpp_afk
09:39 < rxr> depends
09:39 < rxr> if you do not have many machines to deploy: install some generic and emerge the rest
09:40 < rxr> if you have a server room of identical machines: create your custom target for your HPC needs and deploy to many
09:41 < operativo> the second you say! :)
09:41 < operativo> I need to create a target to be installed on several identical machines
09:42 < rxr> if many is more than - let's say 4 :-) - then go with your custom target :-)
09:42 < operativo> n >> 4 :)
09:43 < rxr> the fixed target case in t2 does intenionally not perform dependency resolution, because of the many possible configurations, e.g. uclibc, or even dietlibc, other minimal shell tools than coreutils (busybox, embutils) and the variety of other embedded hackery, e.g. no X11, but only FB based rendering etc.
09:44 < rxr> btw. as your undertaking appears to be of more serious use, I would not put the package selection into the user driver Config menu, but create a complete new target in the targets directory
09:44 < rxr> with the package selection in target/.../pkgsel
09:45 < rxr> so you can version your config and also edit it more quickly, e.g. just {vi,emacs,...} target/.../pkgsel ...
09:50 < operativo> I just add X apr and X apr-utils in pkgsel and retry the build... same error... am I doing something wrong?
09:50 < rxr> hm - where apr and apr-utils built ?
09:50 < operativo> X apr and X apr-utils are before X apache
09:50 < operativo> by scripts/Build-target? no
09:51 < operativo> script/Build-target always says pkgprefix: package apr is not present
09:52 < operativo> (the same for apr-util)
09:52 < operativo> after changing pkg-sel is there something else to do before Build-Target?
09:53 < operativo> apr and apr-util are still in my local repository (download/mirror/a)
10:03 < operativo> I'm now trying to build apr and apr-util separatly with Build-Pkg...
10:04 < operativo> gosh! now Build-Target is rebuilding apr and apr-util! WTF?!?
10:11 < operativo> AAARGH! now Build-Target skipped apache!!!
10:31 < operativo> hey, this is more serious: while building openssh after successfully build openssl:
10:31 < operativo> !> configure: error: Your OpenSSL headers do not match your
10:31 < operativo> !> library. Check config.log for details.
10:31 < operativo> !> If you are sure your installation is consistent, you can disable the check

12:08 < rxr> are those errors from the Build-Target ?
12:16 < operativo> nope
12:16 < operativo> but isofs.txt dose not exists
12:18 < rxr> you post a little too much to follow ...
12:18 < rxr> which target did you base on? maybe it was a "non-CD" target ?
12:24 < operativo> Generic System, Bootstrap Package Selection (with extra packaged compiled succesfully), Install CD / DISK
12:24 < rxr> hm - ok - bootstrap might not be enough for a cd creation .-(
12:24 < rxr> guess I should try and fix what's missing to create a basically installable CD ...
12:24 < rxr> bootstrap was more meant for minimal "unpack and chroot" for a t2 build ...
12:25 < rxr> but adding the 2 missing pieces or so for a installable ISO would probably not hurt
12:25 < rxr> minimal is too big for your use case ?
12:27 < operativo> I give minimal a try... what software is missed for iso creation?
12:27 < rxr> boot loader and also some in-system stuff such as udev and so
12:28 < rxr> bootstrap really is meant as "minimal user-space, e.g. to chroot into, for t2 building
12:28 < operativo> I thought bootstrap was for a linux box wich could only boot...
12:29 < rxr> no, the boot might be misleading
12:29 < rxr> but that's how "getting a self hosting tool-chain running" is name in the IT :-(
12:29 < rxr> e.g. "bootstrapping a compiler, such as GCC"
12:29 < operativo> ok... now I swithed the config to minimal and performing a new Build-Target
12:30 < rxr> :-(
12:31 < operativo> so if i don't want gcc in my target I should use minimal instead that bootstrap?
12:31 < rxr> no, the explenation was to explain "bootstrap"
12:31 < rxr> you need gcc in any t2 configuration in order to compile source code
12:32 < rxr> bootstrap has nothing to do with computer boot
12:32 < rxr> if you want a bootable system you should start from minimal
12:32 < rxr> guess we need a) more handbook and b) more website information material
12:33 -!- mpp_afk [n=user@i53876B54.versanet.de] has quit ["good night - good fight"]
12:37 < operativo> ok, now it's more clear :)
12:38 < operativo> but if I want to create a target that does not contain gcc and any development file how should I do? Suppose that this target should never compile anything because eventually other binary packages will be created on another machine...
12:39 < rxr> yes, you can leave gcc out of the final deployment, but first it has to be part of the t2 build selection
12:40 < operativo> how do I do this?
12:41 < rxr> in a pre-built image with everything you can set filters, based on packagse and files
12:41 < rxr> for an installation you just do not select the packages, as in other linux distributions
12:42 < operativo> is there a way to select packages that will be installed by default from the install cd?
12:43 < rxr> not yet, but cyda just asked for automated install last week or so
12:43 < rxr> we definetly can improve the installer for automation
12:44 < operativo> ok, at least now I know it! :) thank you very much
12:44 < operativo> now I'm building the remaining packages to get the minimal version... hope everything works!

19:14 < felanha> am I the only one stuck at e2fsprogs in stage 1? it doesn't look for libcom_err.so.2 in lib64, no clue how to point it there ;-)
19:17 < rxr> no, I have a test case where it shows up likewise
19:18 < rxr> you could either hunt it, downdate as suggested on the mailing list, or wait for someone else to fix it :-)
19:18 < felanha> being lazy, I guess I'll wait ;-) thx
19:24 < rxr> ok - cu then - leaving the office - have fun - STOP
