04:53 < mnemoc> hi ojh
04:53 < ojh> Hi.
04:55 < ojh> Not to start any wars (asking about another distro) but has any one tried Gobo Linux? It seems to be built around an application-directory like concept with a set of wrapper scripts to the package build process.
04:55 < ojh> Any comparisons to ROCK/T2?
04:59 < ojh> mnemoc: I have not got Zero Install to build yet. LazyFS compiles but the module gives a symbol not found error. I'll need to try updating the LazyFS package or something.
05:00 < mnemoc> never heard of Gobo Linux before
05:01 < mnemoc> sounds like yet another customizable distro
05:01 < ojh> mnemoc: I also found I need to make some updates to the dbus package, the Python bindings are built at present. Not sure about the other bindings. I need to fix that before the ROX DE and Zero Install system will be able to function fully.
05:01 -!- azureus [~hfsjdi@dtm9-d9bbc9c4.pool.mediaWays.net] has quit [Read error: 145 (Connection timed out)]
05:02 < mnemoc> i thought wae had the last dbus
05:02 < ojh> mnemoc: GOBO is a lot more then that . . . they have abolished /usr /lib /bin . . . and so on. see: http://gobolinux.org/index.php?lang=en_US&page=doc/articles/clueless
05:03 < mnemoc> djb did something similar about 10 years ago
05:03 < ojh> mnemoc: Yes, it is the latest dbus but the scripting language bindings are not being built currently.
05:05 < ojh> mnemoc: I think that they are optional switches that need to be specified when running the ./configure for dbus.
05:06 < mnemoc> ojh: send a patch for trunk/dbus to enable those scripts
05:06 < ojh> mnemoc: I need to review the build instructions for dbus, but that would make it depend on any languages that bindings are generated for. So it might end up depending on Python, Mono . . . etc.
05:07 < mnemoc> uhm
05:07 < mnemoc> pkginstall foo && var_append extraconfopt ' ' '--enable-fooo-support' is the usual hack
05:07 < mnemoc> my link is blinking a lot
05:08 < ojh> OK.
05:09 < ojh> mnemoc: Oh, by the way the latest Live CD works flawlessly on both my desktop and laptop computers.
05:10 < ojh> Good work :)
05:10 < mnemoc> :)
05:46 -!- Netsplit tolkien.freenode.net <-> irc.freenode.net quits: CIA-1, valentin, jsaw, SerWou, lewellyn, _Ragnar_, nzg, mtr, ojh, _Lewellyn, (+2 more, use /NETSPLIT to show all of them)

05:48 -!- Netsplit over, joins: CIA-1, lewellyn
05:49 < ojh> mnemoc: I will.
05:49 < mnemoc> :)
05:54 < ojh> mnemoc: I still think that T2 is the best foundation for my project - it'll just be a bit more work to get the Zero Install and ROX DE stack operating smoothly . . .
05:55 < mnemoc> good
05:56 < mnemoc> our goal is that you can do your project only worring in the real issues of what makes your project different than the others
06:00 < ojh> :)

07:59 < mnemoc> hi rxr
07:59 < rxr> moin mnemoc
08:54 < rxr> mnemoc: I should announce -rc1 today ?
09:00 < mnemoc> rxr: if we can share .iso-s, yes, sure
09:01 < mnemoc> rxr: any news about jeru's iso-s?
09:02 < mnemoc> i have my rc2-pre1 reference build finished
09:02 < mnemoc> http://t2.geeks.cl/regressions/stable/regressions.html
09:03 < rxr> mnemoc: no - no new feedback
09:03 < rxr> mnemoc: but he said he urgently needs to finish finding a new flat
09:03 < mnemoc> rxr: oh
09:04 < rxr> 28 fails - how many new ?
09:04 < mnemoc> 28-17=11
09:04 < mnemoc> some are due to topdir
09:05 < mnemoc> some cascade
09:05 < rxr> ok - I explicitly look into those
09:05 < rxr> today
09:05 < mnemoc> thanks
09:05 < rxr> first I need to write a 2.6.12 news for golem - and then the day is T2 day ,-)
09:05 < rxr> tough I first update linux in t2 ... ,-)
09:05 < mnemoc> :D
09:05 < rxr> svn rm package/base/linux24/15-install-in-boot.patch
09:05 < rxr> any objections ?
09:06 < rxr> this is for manual rebuild only - and I never in my life did a make install in a linux tree anyway
09:06 < rxr> I think we should not patch this - and the patch does not apply to 2.6.12 anymoree
09:06 < mnemoc> why?
09:06 < rxr> though I could easily fix that ...
09:06 < mnemoc> who installs on /boot, make install or linux24.conf?
09:07 < rxr> linux24.conf does (as I always did in the past) install manually - using cp and such
09:07 < rxr> the patch is for manually make install's anyway
09:07 < mnemoc> svn rm in that case i think
09:07 < rxr> the build system does not rely on that patch
09:08 < mnemoc> uhm
09:09 < mnemoc> ....
09:09 < mnemoc> considering we don't support hand-made kernels i think we can remove it
09:10 < mnemoc> btw, if you fix something i merge locally the revisions and re-test before commiting
09:11 < rxr> even if we would explicitly make hand building more easy I think it is very bad behaviour to teach people to do make install - when on every other dist this ends up with files in /root ...
09:12 < mnemoc> svn rm it :)
09:12 < rxr> ok - athlon and ppc linux26 Emerge running
09:12 < rxr> though I need to look if there is an updated skas patch ...
09:12 < rxr> I disabled it for now - since I don't use it ...
09:13 < mnemoc> pkgsel: O uml-utilities
09:14 < rxr> vi config/default/packages - so I get reminded that I need to fix s.th. on the next build ,-)

10:30 < azureus> hi tilix
10:31 < tilix> is it possible to compile the Network Config app without T2?
10:32 < tilix> if I just do "make" I got an error
10:33 < tilix> kvtree.cc:79: error: `assert' undeclared (first use this function)
10:41 < rxr> tilix: yes - netconf should compile without T2 - but it does use the rocknet^t2net low-level network config infrastructure
10:41 < tilix> so what else do I need?
10:41 < rxr> tilix: I guess assert is not in the include chain - but somewhere else on your system
10:42 < rxr> well - the rocknet - err - t2net ,-) modulees are included in the serveral T2 packages such as iptables and wireless-tools and such
10:42 < rxr> the base is in sysfiles
10:43 < tilix> usr/share/gnulib/modules/assert
10:43 < rxr> it is not such an easy job to inject this network config into an foreign distribution
10:43 < tilix> is it this?
10:43 < rxr> no
10:43 < rxr> try to add #include to the top of the non-compiling file

12:08 < rxr> tilix: netconf qt/kde usage might now build on Debian - if you could test
12:09 < tilix> yep
12:09 < _Ragnar_> ah ok
12:09 < _Ragnar_> well I need to get to bed
12:09 < tilix> building now

12:13 < tilix> no
12:13 < tilix> the same
12:16 < rxr> hm

12:19 < _Ragnar_> nini
12:19 < tilix> -I/include -I/include/qt3
12:19 < rxr> n8 _Ragnar_
12:19 < tilix> shouldn`t be:

12:19 < rxr> then your QTDIR is not set ..

12:21 < rxr> what did you change ?

12:27 < rxr> if you want to use it as normal user you need a sudo rule ...
12:27 < tilix> We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
12:28 < tilix> I got this, then it asked for a password
12:28 < tilix> but still doesn`t have the eth1 and eth0
12:28 < rxr> should shoudl NOPASSWD it for now

12:28 < rxr> where the h*ck is ip on Debian ?
12:29 < valentin> tilix : did you insert the sudo rules ?
12:29 < tilix> just a second
12:29 < valentin> the acitve interfaces may not exist if you never used rocknet before
12:29 < rxr> tilix: well - since it will only work thereafter if you have ROCK^WT2Net in place what do you wanna do with it on Debian ?
12:29 < valentin> should be no problem
12:32 < tilix> good. After adding to sudoers, now I can see my eth0 and eth1
12:33 < tilix> rxr: could you give me an example for var/run/rocknet/active-interfaces
12:34 < rxr> eth0(default)
12:34 < valentin> tilix: no, just touch an empty file
12:35 < tilix> it sees my lan cards like wireless, and they doesn`t have my settings

12:35 < valentin> what are "your" settings ?
12:35 < valentin> the ones you set manually ?
12:36 < tilix> in /etc/network/interfaces
12:36 < tilix> ip, gateway
12:36 < valentin> tilix: netconf is just a _rocknet_ wrapper
12:36 < valentin> no debian, suse whatsoever
12:36 < valentin> so if you want to use netconf, you have to work with rocknet and place your config in /etc/conf/network

13:03 < rxr> what do you want to set up? some ethernet? or PPP modem or so ?
13:03 < rxr> for eth0 I guess ?
13:04 < veki> ethernet eth0

13:04 < rxr> did it ask to setup eth0 when you entered the menu ?#
13:05 < veki> It asked about setting new profiel and I put that is called eth0
13:06 < veki> I set IP for eth0, gateway and when I wanted to restar netwrok it said eth0 doe snot exist
13:06 < rxr> hm - strange
13:06 < rxr> I suppose there is no "Edit interface eth0" in the menu then ?
13:07 < veki> yes
13:07 < rxr> hm - then try to to create it again - using "Add new interface/profile"
13:07 < veki> I will delete profile and start again
13:08 < rxr> you could also remove the /etc/network/config to get the wizard again ,-)
13:09 < valentin> veki: you can use vi to edit /etc/conf/network
13:09 < valentin> interface eth0
13:09 < valentin> ip xxx.yyy.yyy.aaa
13:09 < valentin> gw xxx.yyy.yyy.aaa
13:10 < veki> Ok, he problem s that SIOSCGIFFLAGS says no such device

13:11 < rxr> like ip 192.168.2.123/24

13:14 < veki> hm
13:14 < veki> maybe there is not module which is strange bceaue it is old ethernet card working on all distros
13:15 < veki> maybe I should put at the beginning of installation 2.4 kernel

13:25 < tilix> http://packages.tilix.org/source/translation/
13:26 < rxr> veki: well - you can kick me - the grub setup is a bit awkward - you need to select create default config ... :-(

13:58 < veki> Hm, somehwere is device mentioned as none though there is device
13:58 < rxr> what did you try to enable networking ?
13:59 < veki> static IPs and there is command Restart network
13:59 < veki> from Stone, network setup menu
13:59 < rxr> can you post "cat /etc/conf/network" ?
14:00 < veki> actually it says restart network initscript
14:00 < veki> eth0
14:00 < veki> ip 192.168.2.4
14:00 < veki> gw 192.168.2.1
14:00 < veki> interface eth0
14:00 < veki> agagin IPs from above
14:01 < veki> name server 217.24.17.17
14:01 < veki> taht's it
14:01 < rxr> you need /24 after your IP at ip ...
14:01 < rxr> ip 192.168.2.4/24
14:01 < rxr> and eth0 should be interface eth0
14:02 < rxr> and name server be nameserver
14:02 < veki> nameserveris connected that was my typo now
14:03 < veki> when it asks me for IP of machine it offers /24
14:03 < veki> but when gw is concerned there is no /24 option. should I put it
14:04 < rxr> no - gw does not accept / need the 24
14:04 < veki> when eth0 is offerd there is no interface part before eth0
14:04 < rxr> this aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd/xx is the new classless inter domain routing notation
14:05 < rxr> that replaced the old 255.255.255. ... netmask
14:05 < rxr> it specifies how many bits are used for the network part more easily
14:05 < veki> ok
14:05 < rxr> /24 is equal to the old 255.255.255.0
14:07 < veki> OK, I corrected and when I pressed restart network init scrips it says Interface/profiel matched: eth0(default)
14:07 < veki> and then sign :-(
14:08 < veki> it also saud again the same with teh same sign
14:08 < rxr> but the network shoudl be up now
14:08 < rxr> I think the :-( is a but in the init scritp to be fixed ,-)
14:08 < rxr> or better in the rocknet core - not the init script ...
14:09 < veki> OK, I ping now my latop from that machine
14:09 < veki> what is the next that I should do
14:09 < veki> in system init it is said that default runlevel is 2. is that OK?
14:10 < rxr> 2 is network less - by default
14:10 < rxr> you could change this to 3 in the stone init setup ...
14:10 < rxr> guess you want to setup X next
14:10 < veki> OK, then I have to edit etc/inittab
14:11 < veki> I changed to 3 in inittab
14:11 < veki> it is minmal version and I do not see X
14:11 < veki> I configured ssh deamon
14:12 < rxr> ah - yes the minimal has no X ,-)
14:12 < rxr> you could even have used stone to change the default runleve ,-)
14:12 < rxr> +l
14:12 < rxr> editing manually is fine as welll
14:12 < veki> OK, vi is OK and stone too
14:12 < veki> as far as I see it is more or less set up
14:13 < veki> should I set up PCI devices etc..
14:13 < rxr> normally the modules should be loaded matching to your PCI devices thru the hotplug equivalent
14:13 < veki> I think that is time now for menu for targets. Am I right?
14:14 < veki> I think that I have to reboot again to go in runlevel 3 from th beginning
14:14 < rxr> init 3

17:36 < veki> valentin: quickstart begins from using ./scripts and I a coming to that stage
17:36 < veki> I installed minimal version and it i sup and running
17:37 < veki> in quick start is not mentioned where are scripts, it is assumed that hey are already installed buth they are not
17:39 < valentin> veki: step 2. there are links to the t2 sources
17:39 < CIA-9> rene * r9773 /trunk/package/base/sysfiles/mkinitrd:
17:40 < CIA-9> * workarounded a strange bash issue on PowerPC where the for loop
17:40 < CIA-9> was for some strange and unknown reason left due to the 2>&1
17:40 < CIA-9> redirection for grep ... ?!?!?
17:40 < CIA-9> * improved status output
17:40 < CIA-9> * added warning about non-static binaries copied into the initrd
17:40 < CIA-9> (so people get remembered to rebuild those with dietlibc ,-)
17:40 < valentin> Get the latest tarball of the __T2 sources__ and extract it to your harddisc or do an checkout from the __T2 subversion repository__ to get a current snapshot of the system.
17:41 < veki> I downloaded one. Is there any special directory where it should be placed or it will do that automatically
17:41 < valentin> if you installed t2 from cd, you should have subversion installed, so you can do a checkout of mnemoc's 2.1 branch
17:41 < valentin> veki: put it anywere you like
17:41 < veki> ok
17:41 < valentin> i prefer something like /usr/src/t2-..../
17:41 < valentin> but its your choice
17:42 < veki> ok
17:43 < CIA-9> rene * r9774 /trunk/package/base/ (4 files in 2 dirs):
17:43 < CIA-9> * removed devfs non-broken default patching and even marked DEVFS in
17:43 < CIA-9> disable-broken since it is in several defconfigs and would thus be
17:43 < CIA-9> enabled on several architectures by the system default merge step
17:43 < CIA-9> during automatic configuration.
17:43 < CIA-9> DevFS seems to be removed in one of the next 2.6 kernels anyway ...

21:15 < rxr> Postal: because chroot just changes the unix internal namespace root

21:23 < Postal> i have a 64bit windows...?

21:24 < rxr> btw - xen is even cooler - but no windows
21:24 < Postal> i diddnt ask if i wanted to compile stuff i asked if i could
21:24 < rxr> http://www.t2-project.org/packages/xen-tools.html
21:25 < Postal> cause your live cd you said does not support 64bit yet
21:25 < rxr> yeah - you could run T2 in qemu on windows and build stuff in it ...
21:25 < rxr> Postal: but you could run your live cd just fine ...
21:25 < rxr> beside it is not 64bit ...
21:25 < lewellyn> can one x-compile t2 from cygwin?
21:25 < lewellyn> Postal: the livecd works well on em64t
21:26 < Postal> do i have to set that as a boot option or will it do it automaticly
21:26 < Postal> just cause i cannot afford anohter primary partition
21:26 < Postal> i really need to buy a new HD but sata is expensive
21:26 < lewellyn> the livecd doesn't need a partition
21:27 < Postal> lewellyn: yes thats the point
21:27 < lewellyn> and it runs fine
21:27 < rxr> lewellyn: in theory one could compile T2 on cygwin - though I think it needs major clutchy hackery ...
21:27 < lewellyn> rxr: just like building anything non-cygwin on cygwin :)
