Sun T1000 and T2/Linux

Ultra5

The Sun T1000 along with the T2000 where the first two systems holding the massive multi-core Niagara CPU from Sun.

The UltraSPARC T1 CPU, code name Niagara, is designed for engergy efficient "thruput" computing and typically consumes 72W at 1.4GHz. The CPU is multi-core and multi-threaded shipping as processors with either 6 or 8 cores with each of them handling four threads of execution at a time, resulting in 24 or 32 threads of execution running simultaniously.

As other high-end servers, the T1000 and T2000 based UltraSPARC T1 systems can be partitionized.

Notes

As the T1000 does not come with an optical drive nor graphical output the installation must be performed head-less via a network or serial console over the network!
