I've gone through the process of setting up both cryptsetup and lvm and was able to mount encrypted lvm volumes and copy to them. However, when I boot the system the process always fails because device entries such as /dev/lvm1/home do not exist. If someone can help me to troubleshoot this I'd be most obliged. 12:39 < rxr> hm, never used encryption, ... 12:39 < rxr> do you use trunk or the stable series? 12:47 < rogermas`> trunk 12:47 < rxr> hm, I recently changed an lvm2 path so it the regular volumes come up for me, maybe something changed again so activating the volume groups does not work? 12:47 < rxr> or some other minor detail in the encryption setup is missing? 12:48 < rogermas`> Personally I'd be happy with lvm, but my university mandates encryption. 12:48 < rxr> wow 12:48 < rogermas`> that is to protect student information. 12:53 < rogermas`> When I boot I see the lvm volume activation message and I'm asked for the passphrase when the encrypted partitions are found. I get dropped to a shell when the device entries given in fstab are not found. Once inside the system vgdisplay and lvdisplay give me correct information. 13:08 < rxr> hm 13:11 < rogermas`> I can get the system to boot by putting /dev/mapper/lvm1-home /home/rmason... in fstab instead of /dev/lvm1/home /home/rmason... 13:15 < rxr> then everything works just fine? 13:17 < rogermas`> well, I can log in as my user and see files in my home dir. I have no idea if the lvm facilities for making a volume larger, adding disks etc will work. 13:21 < rogermas`> lvdisplay says that volume lvm1 is at /dev/lvm1/home, but that device entry does not exist. 16:20 < rxr> re 16:20 < rxr> hm, some new udev issue? 16:29 < CIA-40> rene * r38567 /trunk/package/base/hdparm/hdparm.desc: * updated hdparm (9.36 -> 9.37) --- Log closed Wed Jan 26 00:00:06 2011
