17:32 < oilen> funny linux header installs where?
17:33 < oilen> and we do not have anymore kernel sorce?
17:33 < oilen> hmmm
17:34 < oilen> cannot install ati driver
17:46 < oilen> ?

17:55 < redwil> oilen: sorry to pop in but, where is the post you talked about perl/Glob.pm?
17:55 < redwil> thanks rxr I have been able to tinker a bit.

18:00 < oilen> redwil simply reinstall perl with Emerge-pkg - force perl
18:00 < oilen> and it will go away
18:02 < oilen> redwil this is my previous installation instruction http://www.t2-project.org/zine/3/
18:11 < redwil> aha. thenks I will try
18:13 < redwil> btw: I noticed that the config script is very slow. i mean after selecting/deselecting something it takes (on a T7300) around 10 seconds to finish.
18:15 < redwil> oops I did not realized that 'Magazine' has some very interesting stuff. I will read first.
18:15 < oilen> yep
18:16 < oilen> also i found now very helpful this link http://bkhome.org/t2/
18:26 < redwil> Yes, I have seen it before and from what bk said there are some minor shortcomings for T2 if you want to start from 'scratch'. I was about to restart with pyppy but I will not give up on T2 only yet.
18:27 < oilen> me too
18:27 < oilen> i am trying to remember what i did a few years ago to have gnome installed and running :)
18:29 < redwil> dependancy hell :(
18:30 < oilen> yep
18:30 < oilen> but now there are more issues
18:31 < oilen> there are many packages that do not get build due to errors
18:31 < oilen> i will try to log everything and make a new tutorial
18:32 < oilen> and one major issue there is no kernel source package
18:32 < redwil> I just tried to get xorg up and running and hit a few bumps. I had to add an explicit dependancy to libxcb: libxslt
18:34 < redwil> I tryed myself on suse but at the kernel the compilation failed so I will try natively on T2
18:34 < redwil> what do you mean there is no source package?
18:34 < oilen> i compiled xorg with not too much hassle
18:34 < oilen> well i tried to install a proprietary driver from ati
18:35 < redwil> maybe I've done some stupid things
18:35 < oilen> it requires eitehr kernel source or kernel headers
18:36 < oilen> despite the fact that there is a package called linux-header there is no source
18:36 < redwil> I did not get so far yet. wanted to have a 'clean' build first then add/remove/change stuff
18:37 < redwil> aha
18:37 < oilen> follow my t2 from scratch
18:37 < oilen> and you will be up and running in about two days :)
18:37 < oilen> and also we are here to assist if something goes wrong
18:37 < redwil> 2 days for compilation?
18:37 < redwil> Thank you
18:38 < oilen> noooo
18:38 < oilen> 2 days to figure everything out
18:38 < redwil> aha
18:38 < oilen> and to fiddle with problems, dependencies,t2 build system, etc
18:38 < redwil> that make more sense although it might take me more
18:39 < oilen> well
18:39 < oilen> what can i say
18:39 < oilen> as in my post good luck and have a mug of coffe ready
18:40 < redwil> also I cannot dedicate 100% of my time to this for I have a ton of other project, some that had to be finished yesterday, to work on
18:40 < redwil> no complains
18:40 < redwil> just a state of fact
18:40 < oilen> well i'm inthe same situation here
18:41 < redwil> aren't we all?
18:41 < oilen> monday i have to put this baby online and i'm still compiling things
18:41 < oilen> yep
18:42 < redwil> soory to keep you from doing your job. good luck and thanks again
18:42 < oilen> np

19:55 < oilen_> thrashed all.... rebuilding again
20:07 -!- koan_ is now known as koan
20:32 < redwil> oilen: you were right about rebuilding perl. Things got better. Still xorg not yet up and running. xorg-server requires some basic packages thet are not listed as dependencies (at least generic mouse, keyboard and vesa/fb for video). Then it needs xkeyboard-config whici in turn needs xbcomp. Continue and ..
20:36 < oilen_> hmmm
20:36 < oilen_> ok
20:36 < oilen_> so let us take it step by step
20:37 < oilen_> in ./scripts/Config -cfg someconfigname you selected the system as generic system
20:38 < oilen_> after that you need to select a minimal with xorg and ...
20:39 < oilen_> save and go to download
20:39 -!- orici [~quassel@2001:470:9a41:107:20c:29ff:fea4:8189] has joined #t2
20:39 < oilen_> after downloading and building you will end up with a working config
20:39 < oilen_> you will be able to burn it to a CD and reinstall a better version of T2
20:40 < oilen_> so to be exact
20:40 < oilen_> Target Dist is Generic System
20:40 < oilen_> minimalistic is minimal-desktop
20:40 < oilen_> at least this works for now
20:41 < oilen_> i am building right now enhaced desktop version
20:42 < oilen_> if you are trying to do everything by using Emerge-pkg
20:42 < oilen_> you will end up in dep hell
20:45 < oilen_> interesting enough T2 works well in a VM like VitualBox
