10:38 < Baldzius> hey rxr
10:38 < Baldzius> seems that package matrix not working again
10:39 < rxr> yes, I still did not put syncing in place
10:39 < rxr> I onlyupdated it once manually
10:39 < Baldzius> ok
10:39 < rxr> anything else?
10:39 < rxr> I transfered the t2 people world map and mirror multiplexer, though :-)
10:39 < Baldzius> it doesn't fetch new files automatically also?
10:40 < rxr> well, anything is hackable, ... which files?
10:40 < rxr> package matrix, download?
10:40 < Baldzius> some packages are missing for 8.0

10:40 < Baldzius> ladspa-* and some others
10:40 < Baldzius> as sources
10:40 < rxr> you mean the mirror ?
10:41 < Baldzius> yes
10:41 < rxr> the syncing was still running
10:41 < rxr> but it run out of storage (disk) space in the night
10:41 < rxr> need to resize the VM, ...
10:43 < rxr> Baldzius: btw. yesterday I got sparc64 mostly on par
10:43 < rxr> really sad that jus this freaking boot loader does not build
10:43 < rxr> and I already tried to pin that down in 2 days of work or so some months ago :-(
10:45 < rxr> but I asked Aeroflex Gaisler if they may like to donate one of their shiny, new Mini-ITX sparc(32) development boards: http://www.gaisler.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=339&Itemid= - keeping my fingers crossed, have not yet heared back from them
10:46 < Baldzius> cool
10:48 < rxr> yep
10:48 < rxr> so, will take dl. down for a minute have to resize the filesystem :-)
10:52 < Baldzius> lemme know when it's up
11:03 < rogermason> Hello. I have 8.0 installed on two machines from the iso. Thanks rxr for pointing out how to deal with SATA. I would now like to expand these machines into desktops. Is it better to use Emerge-Pkg on each to install the required packages, or should I set up a config, build a target and then re-install from that target?
11:04 < Baldzius> you have minimal installed?
11:05 < Baldzius> myself I get everything with Emerge
11:05 < Baldzius> expect lots of deps crashes
11:06 < Baldzius> but it's good experience though
11:06 < Baldzius> so go ahead :)
11:06 < Baldzius> easier is to build desktop target
11:12 < rogermason> Yes, minimal. Yesterday I tried to Emerge icecream but that pulled in Xorg, qt, kdelibs... (much of which crashed). I want icecream in order to speed-up building these monster packages. Is it possible (or recommended) to build a version of icecream without all the GUI dpendencies? If so, what must I edit?
11:17 < Baldzius> check it's configure script
11:17 < Baldzius> this could be highly possible to disable all gui stuff
11:20 < CIA-29> aldas * r36868 /branches/8.0/package/network/iproute2/ (install-tc.patch iproute2.conf):

11:20 < CIA-29> fixed iproute2 to install tc, ...
11:21 < rxr> rogermason: yes, emerge, I also just do that
11:21 < rxr> I already cleaned up the auto-tracked deps in the past and will continue to do so
11:21 < rxr> I hope we can get updates from minimal to kde/gnome smoother over the next days and weeks
11:30 < rxr> Baldzius: dl up agin
11:30 < rxr> again
11:30 < Baldzius> thanks
11:30 < rxr> but files still syncing

13:21 < Baldzius> email for instance
13:22 < rxr> I could try if currently a cmake package hits ccache, ...

14:50 < rogermason> Hello again. I'm trying to build libprelude, which fails because of a missing perl file: make[5]: Entering directory `/root/t2-8.0/src.libprelude.SDE-CONFIG.20100721.090939.11629.gem/libprelude-0.9.24.1/$
14:50 < rogermason> Can't locate File/Glob.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.12.1/i686-t2-linux-gnu /usr/lib/perl5$. How should I deal with this? (Sorry to keep bombarding you with questions).
15:28 < Baldzius> that is very strange
15:29 < Baldzius> you really get very strange build errors :)
15:29 < rogermason> Thanks :-)
15:30 < Baldzius> glob.pm as far as I remember is bundled in
15:30 < Baldzius> perl
15:30 < rogermason> Yes, I'm just reading about in on the net. Bundled since perl 5.6.x.
15:30 < Baldzius> this error makes no sense
15:31 < Baldzius> something's fishy here
15:31 < Baldzius> are you running Emerge?

15:38 < Baldzius> why your INC path is different
15:39 < Baldzius> I can't test myself, my vm is down :/
15:39 < Baldzius> could you try to Emerge perl again
15:39 < Baldzius> I think you'll have to use --force
15:51 < Baldzius> oh
15:51 < Baldzius> that's dosglob
15:51 < Baldzius> you don't have File/Glob.pm
15:52 < Baldzius> how did you get your instalation build?
15:52 < Baldzius> build yourself?
16:10 < rogermason> I installed it from the iso.
16:18 < Baldzius> hm
16:18 < Baldzius> anyway
16:18 < rogermason> Rebuilding perl fixed the problem with libprelude.
16:18 < Baldzius> try reemerging perl

16:19 < Baldzius> I guess this is cross compile issue

16:34 < Baldzius> basically there should be no problems with perl
16:34 < Baldzius> we will have to take a look at this
16:34 < Baldzius> rxr might be aware of this already
16:34 < Baldzius> I think there was something with 7.0
16:34 < Baldzius> this shouldn't happen if you get build for yourself (not cross)

17:30 < rogermason> rxr:Yes I installed 8.0.
17:42 < rxr> ok, I will keep an eye on the problem
17:46 < rogermason> Given that the released 8.0 was cross-compiled (for x86) would it be wise to rebuild everything and install on the host? If so, is there a command that will do things in the correct sequence?
17:55 < rxr> nope
17:55 < rxr> normally it produces 100% the same result
17:55 < rxr> all embedded stuff runs rock solid cross compiled anyway, your AP, smartphone, etc.
17:55 < rxr> this is just spurious crappy packages (like perl and cracklib) having their issues
17:56 < rxr> but that is no problem, just rebuild perl and it's fine
17:56 < rxr> this will improve in the long term in any case, ...
18:04 < rogermason> Many thanks.
18:10 < rogermason> If I may impose on your patience... I tried to build icecream yesterday (on my newly installed 8.0 system), but it pulled in loads of X windows related dependencies. As I said to Baldzius this morning, having icecream depend on the kind of monster packages that it could help compile renders it less useful. I'd like to figure out how to compile icecream in t2 without those dependencies. Baldzius pointed me to icecream.conf and
18:10 < rogermason> suggested i should pass config options from there. Unfortunately, the documentation on building icecream is severely lacking, so I've no idea how to turn off the GUI related features. What happens if I take out the X related packages from icream.cache?
18:10 < rxr> the .cache will not help much
18:10 < rxr> you can try to buidl it without the deps in any case
18:11 < rxr> but if that works depends on the upstream icecream authors
18:11 < rxr> if it simply has the source code full with X/Qt stuff then this will not help at all
18:11 < rxr> our package may also be slightly dated, I remeber I once looked at an update, but there where so many un-nice changes that I remeber to once skip over an update, ...
18:11 < rxr> what are you so in icecream, doesn't distcc cut it for you?
18:13 < rxr> http://www.t2-project.org/packages/distcc.html
18:14 < rogermason> I have used distcc in the past, but heard that icecream is easier to set up for cross compiling. My machines are quite heterogeneous so I saw that as an advantage. However, I have no direct experience with icecream. Maybe I should revert to distcc as you suggest.
