10:12 < rxr> hi
10:13 < Baldzius> hey rxr
10:13 < rxr> did some long lingering, ugly work yesterday
10:13 < rxr> pkgconfig, e2fsprogs, ...
10:13 < rxr> cpio is a likewise lingering, broken update :-(

10:19 < Baldzius> package matrix still not updated ?
10:20 < rxr> nope, was busy elsewhere
10:20 < rxr> but I now have the dl files on another machine with traffic shaping!
10:23 < rxr> oh, btw. fixing iproute2 was also an nice commit :-)
10:32 < rxr> matrix now once manually pulled
10:32 < rxr> will add some scheduling soonish as I have some minute
10:32 < Baldzius> should we merge iproute2?
10:33 < rxr> yep
10:36 < Baldzius> ok, I will start pushing my stuff tomorrow
10:37 < Baldzius> my pass is at home :)
10:37 < rxr> :-)
10:38 < Baldzius> very fancy, always keep forgeting it, so have it written down
10:39 < rxr> one solution is also to use password less login, and keep your private ssh key on a usb stick
10:40 < rxr> from the new ext. server we shuffled 128GB out the last days
10:49 < Baldzius> http://dl.t2-project.org/mirror/ is still not available?
10:51 < Baldzius> and http not running for dl2
10:52 < rxr> the isos are not yet even thru
10:52 < rxr> yes, dl2 is a contrib, sponsored server, ...
10:52 < Baldzius> ic
10:52 < rxr> you can poke mpp when he is back :-)
10:54 < rxr> I now sync some sources
10:54 < rxr> will take quite some more hours until all sourcse and older ISOs will be there
10:55 < rxr> btw. did you notice a speed difference browsing the t2-project.org site?
10:57 < Baldzius> feels faster than before
10:58 < rxr> that's exactly what I wanted to hear :-)
11:04 < rxr> damnit, I still have way too many crufty cruft lingering on my main t2 hack tree:
11:04 < rxr> t2-trunk# svn st | wc -l
11:04 < rxr> 542
11:04 < rxr> yes, over 500 unfinished changes, like new packages, etc., ... :-(((((
11:08 < Baldzius> doesn't look good :)
11:08 < rxr> well, at lest it's good to always have some nice things to come :-)
11:08 < rxr> http://twitter.com/renebln
11:27 < rxr> so, user map now functional again
11:31 < rxr> now the mirror CGI multiplexr

11:58 < Baldzius> hey rogermason, how's your experience using t2 going?
12:06 < rogermason> Hello Baldzius. Well, to be honest, I'm struggling. I put the new release on a CD. Unfortunately, it did not recognise the hard disk on a SATA machine. On an older machine (hda vs sda) I was able to install but, having created a normal (non root) user I could not assign that user a password because /usr/share/cracklib/pwd_dict.pwd.gz is missing.
12:07 < Baldzius> g*
12:07 < Baldzius> I will compiling xen on this bubuntu machine
12:07 < Baldzius> I will test new iso myself if I am lucky
12:07 < rxr> rogermason: for the cracklib dict you can either emerge cracklib on the installed box, or comment out the use of cracklib in the pam modules in /etc/pam.d
12:07 < rxr> cracklib stuff is not easily cross compilable
12:08 < rxr> generating this dict cache by running binaries, ... :-(
12:08 < rxr> I'll fix this in trunk to not use the cracklib password testing by default
12:18 < rogermason> rxr: Thanks. I checked out 8.0 on the installed box using svn and then tried to install cracklib using .scripts/Emerge-Pkg, but got an error. I think that was to do with not having configured a build, maybe? Perhaps someone would be kind enough to tell me (again!) what steps are needed to install a package.
12:20 < rogermason> rxr: Yesterday you said something about being able to select a menu during the boot process (so as to be able to install on my SATA machine). I did not understand at what point that menu becomes accessible. Were you refering to the BIOS boot sequence?
12:23 -!- Baldzius [~aldas@87-198-133-94.ptr.magnet.ie] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
13:11 < rxr> rogermason: you need to run the Config on a checkout at least once so the build scripts now what to build
13:11 < rxr> you can also copy the installed /etc/SDE-CONFIG to config/default to use what the ISO was build with
13:12 < rxr> rogermason: for the media selection I meant the text menu questions after the ISO was booted from a media
13:13 < CIA-29> rene * r36816 /trunk/package/gnome2/gstreamer/gstreamer.desc: * updated gstreamer (0.10.29 -> 0.10.30)
13:49 < rxr> http://t2-project.org/packages/ocrad.html
13:54 < rogermason> rxr: many thanks. I'll try building cracklib this evening when I'm at the office.
13:55 < CIA-29> rene * r36817 /trunk/package/graphic/ocrad/ (gcc43.patch ocrad.desc): * updated ocrad (0.17 -> 0.20)
13:59 < rogermason> rxr: Regarding the media selection. The problem was that the second stage could not be found, probably because the CD drive was not recognised. It is probably /dev/sr0 on a SATA system. I'll play with it this evening and report back. Again, many thanks.
14:01 < CIA-29> rene * r36818 /trunk/package/gnome2/pango/pango.desc: * updated pango (1.28.0 -> 1.28.1)

15:42 < d-draegon> i have a qst about t2
15:43 < rxr> sure, just ask
15:43 < d-draegon> i am running win & using virtual box as my dev machine, will that still work?
15:44 < rxr> should
15:44 < d-draegon> it is my only running computer at the moment
15:44 < rxr> I'm not a regular virtualbox users (KVM, ...) but it should just work
15:45 < d-draegon> i have been having some issues installing & getting 1st boot after install
15:46 < rxr> what kind of issues?
15:46 < rxr> which ISO ?

15:47 -!- Irssi: #t2: Total of 14 nicks [1 ops, 0 halfops, 0 voices, 13 normal]
15:49 < d-draegon> it has been a few wks, i was using 8.0-rc2
15:50 < d-draegon> it would start to boot, but there would be an error, needing to sign in as root to resolve it
15:50 < d-draegon> i do not remember the error, sorry
15:51 < d-draegon> i just dl the stable 8.0 about 5 min ago
16:09 < d-draegon> my win host is 64 bit, if i make my guest 32 bit & use 32 bit iso, would that make a dif, i am trying to make a 32 bit os
16:10 < rxr> I sssuem virtualbox should emulate it properly in either case
16:11 < d-draegon> i thought it should
16:12 < d-draegon> what size hdd should be the min & the min ram for a dev machine?
16:12 < d-draegon> could not find that at the website or th ehandbook
16:13 < rxr> well, we intentially only ship minimal images now, for many reasons
16:13 < rxr> for that the size is theoretically pretty small
16:13 < rxr> however, if you want to continue development, appliances, or embedded systems, I'd rather make that 10 or 20 GB
16:13 < rxr> for all the sources, temp source trees, and built system sandboxes
16:14 < rxr> so it depends to some extent what you gonna do with it
16:15 < d-draegon> i am trying to make a usb external hdd bootable on any machine like a live disk but also able to save my data
16:15 < d-draegon> trying to make my own distro that can do that
16:16 < rxr> the t2 live target output (live like kind a live-cd/dvd/usb storage) can basically do that
16:16 < d-draegon> have not been able to find 1 that can do what i want
16:17 < rxr> http://t2-project.org/targets/live/
16:17 < rxr> though that info is a little old
16:17 < rxr> nowadays it is even more smoothly integrated into te build
16:17 < rxr> http://t2-project.org/packages/module-init-tools.html
16:21 < d-draegon> sounds interesting
16:23 < CIA-29> aldas * r36819 /trunk/package/kde/kvirc/kvirc.desc: * updated kvirc (4.0rc3 -> 4.0.0)
16:23 < CIA-29> aldas * r36820 /trunk/package/python/sip/sip.desc: * updated sip (4.10.3 -> 4.10.5)
16:35 < d-draegon> thank you for the info, i will look into it more later, i have to go to work in cpl hrs
