13:53 < |beowulf|> hi
13:56 < |beowulf|> I need help installing t2: the problem is that the box cannot boot from a floppy disk or cdrom drive and the system that is currently running on it is too old to build t2 on it. Is there a precompiled chroot that I can use as a starting point?
14:04 < rxr> you could untar the pkg tarballs from the ISO and chroot into that
14:08 < |beowulf|> ok, I'll try that
14:08 < |beowulf|> thanks :)
14:08 < rxr> your're welcome
14:08 < rxr> just ask if you get stuck or need orientation

14:31 < itsu> good evening
15:06 < rxr> hey
15:08 < itsu> just looking for you rxr
15:09 < itsu> i would like to ask if you could provide initramfs , as i need it for thinclients ?
15:09 < itsu> pxe boot ...
15:10 < itsu> i could not figure out how to do this from a livecd target
15:10 < rxr> hm
15:10 < rxr> I do not have much free time these days :-(
15:10 < itsu> i think the problem is that the root device has to be /dev/ram0 or thelike
15:10 < itsu> thats okay
15:11 < itsu> maybe you could put it on the todo list ?
15:11 < rxr> have it already
15:11 < itsu> allright
15:11 < rxr> maybe I have a project with pxe comming up anyway, ... :-)
15:11 < itsu> maybe some hints i would investigate further myself
15:11 < itsu> cool ! :-)
15:12 < rxr> maybe you follow some syslinux / grub PXE boot howto, or aren't those too helpful ?
15:13 < itsu> problem is that after some basic boot stuff the kernel hangs
15:13 < itsu> i think it is the remount of the rootfs
15:13 < itsu> in rw mode
15:13 < itsu> i'll try to get into this with livescripts
15:14 < itsu> thanx anyways , thanx for your great work !!!
15:15 < itsu> see you around :-) an have a nice we
15:17 < rxr> cu have fun

17:29 < |beowulf|> hm, this is getting complicated...
17:30 < |beowulf|> [root root]# chroot . /bin/bash
17:30 < |beowulf|> cannot set up thread-local storage: set_thread_area failed when setting up thread-local storage
17:36 < rxr> ouh
17:36 < rxr> that is an old kernel then, hm ?
17:42 < |beowulf|> very old
17:42 < |beowulf|> 2.2.16
17:42 < |beowulf|> the system is so old that I cannot even build a recent kernel on it
17:45 -!- jeffdameth [n=jeff@dyndsl-085-016-232-253.ewe-ip-backbone.de] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)]
17:51 < rxr> .oO
17:51 < rxr> edit your bootloader to load the t2 kernel from the cd :..
17:52 < |beowulf|> the boot loader on this machine is part of the BIOS
17:52 < rxr> what eaxtly do you work on ?
17:52 < |beowulf|> it's a sun cobalt qube 3
17:52 < rxr> ah, nice
17:54 < |beowulf|> right now I'm trying to make it boot the system I intended to use as a chroot
17:54 < |beowulf|> the last message I get is Warning: unable to open an initial console.
17:54 < rxr> hm
18:01 < |beowulf|> ok, dev is empty, this of course cannot work...
18:04 < |beowulf|> hmmm -- what's the root password in the chroot?
18:05 < rxr> none
18:05 < rxr> it should be st during install
18:05 < rxr> you could copy'n paste a hash into etc/shadow
18:05 < rxr> btw. /dev is empty due u/dev putting notes there at runtime
18:05 < rxr> can you load an initd ?
18:05 < rxr> from your BIOS boot loader thing ?
18:06 < |beowulf|> not sure, but creating /dev/{console,null,zero} solved the problem

21:51 < DeeKey> Hello world :)
22:00 < rxr> hi DeeKey
22:08 -!- Enqlave [n=stealth@sourcemage/guru/stealth] has joined #t2
22:10 < DeeKey> rxr: thank you for your help :) Very stupid problem. I have just forgotten about overlays...
22:14 < DeeKey> hmm. XEN is dependent on number of programs an libs. Should I put it to compilation later in the queue ? Or else?
22:23 < rxr> which programs and libs ?
22:25 < DeeKey> I will make a copy paste...
22:26 < DeeKey> http://pastebin.com/m39129240
22:26 < DeeKey> zlib, x11 headers
22:27 < DeeKey> but zlib is included to the build... But it is only compiled durong phase 3 and 9..
22:28 < rxr> ah - not they aren't
22:29 < rxr> if you want to cross compile enable the cross option and those package marekd CROSS are enabled for stage 1
22:44 < DeeKey> How to turn it on? There is not setting for it in config... Beside, do you really think it will help to solve the problem? Some libraries (python and crypto) are compiled before. So the xen was able to find them...
22:45 < rxr> then indeed the xen priority might be the problem - feel free to adaopt
22:45 < rxr> that
22:45 < rxr> for the cross compilation there is this "Cross compile between architectures" or so option, wired to CONFIG_CROSS
22:45 < rxr> SDECFG_CROSSBUILD
22:53 -!- jeffdamet1 [n=jeff@dyndsl-080-228-184-238.ewe-ip-backbone.de] has left #t2 []
23:10 < DeeKey> how to get headers? I need to compile program at 5 step?
23:13 < rxr> you should always get headers
23:13 < rxr> the stages are mostly cross building vs. native building in the sandbox
23:15 < DeeKey> the it is strange, because xen is not able to find Checking check_zlib_devel:
23:15 < DeeKey> *** Check for zlib headers FAILED
23:15 < DeeKey> ZLIB was compiled..
23:15 < DeeKey> at 3 stage

23:53 < DeeKey> I looked inside XEN source package.
23:54 < DeeKey> Seems that xen is checking tools not in the build, but in my distributive :)
23:55 < DeeKey> rxr: is it ok, or not?
23:56 < DeeKey> I supposed, that xen will peek inside the build root...
