Compilation under the roor account is a very dangerous. I have personally ruined my host distributive 3 times. :) There is a aim in the feature list, saying that T2 must get rid of running under the root account. A consider it to be a very challenging goal... But why not to do a workaround? why not to run T2 in a virtual system ?! (actually that what I am doing :) ) Previously i used VmWare workstation 5 or VirtualBox. But now I am migrating 09:57 < rxr> personally I never ruined my host distrbution, but I saw others doing that and see your point 09:57 < rxr> lightweight container in linux for good performance is openvz 09:58 < rxr> vserver does not work, as vserver does not allow mknod (device node creation), which is needed for some packages 09:58 < DeeKey> there is a tendency to create a virtual distro per usecase. http://enomalism.com/Download_Virtual.335.0.html 09:58 < rxr> likewise, user-mode-linux should work, as does colinux under windows, but that costs more performane 09:58 < rxr> you could also just chroot 09:58 < rxr> that would be the most lightweight "virtual container" 09:58 < rxr> chroot /my-t2-build-area :-) 09:59 < CIA-8> rene * r26307 /trunk/package/office/libwpd/libwpd.desc: * updated libwpd (0.8.11 -> 0.8.12) 10:01 < CIA-8> rene * r26308 /trunk/package/graphic/leptonlib/leptonlib.desc: * updated leptonlib (1.49 -> 1.50) 10:08 < DeeKey> virtual image has great advantage over the live system: 10:08 < DeeKey> it is easy to use! 10:08 < DeeKey> just download and start using. 10:09 < DeeKey> With live system you have to satisfy all dependencies in your distro 10:25 -!- Baldzius [n=Baldzius@87.198.192.226] has joined #t2 10:25 < Baldzius> moin 10:25 < rxr> moin Baldzius 10:25 < Baldzius> hi rxr 10:25 < DeeKey> hi Baldzius 10:25 < Baldzius> hi DeeKey 10:26 [Users #t2] 10:26 [@ChanServ] [ Dallur ] [ Fatal ] [ mqueiros_] [ rxr ] [ valentin] 10:26 [ Baldzius] [ DeeKey ] [ happycube ] [ mtr ] [ sepp ] 10:26 [ CIA-8 ] [ emte ] [ Key_Gena95] [ pdinoto_ ] [ sparc-kly] 10:26 [ cyda ] [ Enqlave|server] [ LMJ ] [ Ragnarin ] [ TobiX ] 10:26 -!- Irssi: #t2: Total of 21 nicks [1 ops, 0 halfops, 0 voices, 20 normal] 10:26 < DeeKey> and the other benefit of virtualising T2 - it can be used under any OS? not only under linux.... 10:27 < rxr> DeeKey: yes, what exactly do you have in mind ? 10:28 < DeeKey> i am going to create virtual images for the main Virtual Programs (XEN, VmWare, VirtualBox) 10:29 < DeeKey> And decided to have a feedback. Is it really needed... 10:29 < rxr> do you ever build virtualbox from source ? 10:29 < rxr> or just used their releases? 10:30 < rxr> I ask because I started a virtualbox package for t2 10:30 < rxr> I already comitted some dependency libraries like 4 months ago 10:30 < rxr> but the main package is not yet building 10:30 < DeeKey> I am uzing VirtualBox under ubuntu. 10:30 < DeeKey> *using 10:30 < DeeKey> I used .deb for installation. 10:33 < DeeKey> It is not a rock stable... And it is quite hard to install bridge netwok for a guest (at least was not able to figure it out on my Kubuntu 7.04... ) 10:33 < DeeKey> But I am running my windows guest systems and some linuxes under it... 10:34 < DeeKey> About virtualisation of T2: I liked the idea of this site: http://virtualappliances.net/downloads/ 10:34 < DeeKey> just select the program you want and start using it. 10:36 < rxr> though those are quite statically pre-built 10:36 < rxr> even more advanced would b to let the user select the building bocks by some list or radio buttons 10:36 < rxr> and then click the create image / download image button to actually build the custom one 10:37 < rxr> when we go more into the images for wireless access points, like wrt2, then we need something like this as well for all the slightly different prebuilt commercial access points 10:37 < DeeKey> These distros are based on ubuntu. You can just apt-get install the needed things 10:37 < rxr> for selecting the hw manufactor, the model and the feature set (like dhcpd + firewall + VoIP, etc.) 10:44 < DeeKey> What is prebuilt binary CD? 10:44 < rxr> where? 10:44 < DeeKey> Is it a live CD? 10:44 < DeeKey> on t2 download page 10:44 < rxr> ah - that can be live or install 10:44 < rxr> depending on the build-type 10:45 < DeeKey> that is what I need to make an image... 10:56 -!- Enqlave [n=stealth@unaffiliated/enqlave] has joined #t2 10:57 < DeeKey> hi Englace 10:58 < Enqlave> ;p 10:58 < Enqlave> hi DeeKey 11:02 [Users #t2] 11:02 [@ChanServ] [ Dallur ] [ Enqlave|server] [ LMJ ] [ Ragnarin ] [ TobiX ] 11:02 [ Baldzius] [ DeeKey ] [ Fatal ] [ mqueiros_] [ rxr ] [ valentin] 11:02 [ CIA-8 ] [ emte ] [ happycube ] [ mtr ] [ sepp ] 11:02 [ cyda ] [ Enqlave] [ Key_Gena95 ] [ pdinoto_ ] [ sparc-kly] 11:02 -!- Irssi: #t2: Total of 22 nicks [1 ops, 0 halfops, 0 voices, 21 normal] 11:05 < CIA-8> rene * r26309 /trunk/package/network/liferea/liferea.desc: * updated liferea (1.4.4 -> 1.4.5) 11:16 -!- Baldzius [n=Baldzius@87.198.192.226] has quit ["Leaving"] 11:39 < CIA-8> lars * r26310 /branches/7.0/package/perl/perl/perl.conf: Use $CC instead of hardcoded gcc in perl.conf. 12:04 -!- mqueiros_ [n=mqueiros@80.243.90.80] has quit [] 12:08 -!- pdinoto_ [n=pdinoto@200.117.246.103] has quit [Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)] 12:08 -!- pdinoto_ [n=pdinoto@200.117.246.103] has joined #t2 12:09 -!- shevy [n=shevy@chello080108103172.36.11.univie.teleweb.at] has joined #t2 12:49 [Users #t2] 12:49 [@ChanServ] [ DeeKey ] [ Fatal ] [ mtr ] [ sepp ] [ valentin] 12:49 [ CIA-8 ] [ emte ] [ happycube ] [ pdinoto_] [ shevy ] 12:49 [ cyda ] [ Enqlave ] [ Key_Gena95] [ Ragnarin] [ sparc-kly] 12:49 [ Dallur ] [ Enqlave|server] [ LMJ ] [ rxr ] [ TobiX ] 12:49 -!- Irssi: #t2: Total of 21 nicks [1 ops, 0 halfops, 0 voices, 20 normal] 12:57 < CIA-8> lars * r26311 /trunk/package/perl/perl/perl.conf: 12:57 < CIA-8> * Merged rev. 26310 into trunk: 12:57 < CIA-8> Use $CC instead of hardcoded gcc in perl.conf. 12:59 < CIA-8> lars * r26312 /branches/7.0/package/filesystem/unionfs/unionfs.desc: * Fix dowload location of unionfs linux kernel patch. 13:02 < CIA-8> rene * r26313 /trunk/package/develop/newt/ (cross.patch newt.conf newt.desc): * fixed newt to cross build 13:16 < CIA-8> rene * r26314 /trunk/package/network/pump/ (. pump.cache pump.conf pump.desc): * added pump (0.8.24) - A Bootp and DHCP client for automatic IP configuration 13:26 -!- shevy [n=shevy@chello080108103172.36.11.univie.teleweb.at] has quit [""Black cat, white cat, who cares ... as long as it catches"] 13:45 -!- DeeKey [n=kulandin@jabber.hst.ru] has left #t2 [] 14:37 < rxr> re 14:42 < mtr> rehi rxr 14:48 -!- Baldzius [n=Baldzius@87.198.192.226] has joined #t2 14:57 -!- mqueiros_ [n=mqueiros@80.243.90.80] has joined #t2 15:10 < rxr> rehi Baldzius and mqueiros_ 15:11 < mqueiros_> hi rxr ! 15:13 < CIA-8> rene * r26315 /trunk/package/graphic/asymptote/asymptote.desc: * updated asymptote (1.33 -> 1.34) 15:36 -!- pdinoto_ [n=pdinoto@200.117.246.103] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)] 15:37 -!- pdinoto_ [n=pdinoto@200.80.189.242] has joined #t2 15:37 -!- cgetty [n=elmo@63.168.104.2] has joined #t2 15:37 [Users #t2] 15:37 [@ChanServ] [ cyda ] [ Enqlave|server] [ LMJ ] [ Ragnarin ] [ TobiX ] 15:37 [ Baldzius] [ Dallur ] [ Fatal ] [ mqueiros_] [ rxr ] [ valentin] 15:37 [ cgetty ] [ emte ] [ happycube ] [ mtr ] [ sepp ] 15:37 [ CIA-8 ] [ Enqlave] [ Key_Gena95 ] [ pdinoto_ ] [ sparc-kly] 15:37 -!- Irssi: #t2: Total of 22 nicks [1 ops, 0 halfops, 0 voices, 21 normal] 15:55 < CIA-8> lars * r26316 /trunk/package/develop/ocaml/ocaml.desc: * updated ocaml (3.08.4 -> 3.10.0) 15:56 < rxr> finally, I have some useable temperature plots using the rrd fluff 16:33 -!- cyda [n=Cyda@c-76-109-131-26.hsd1.fl.comcast.net] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)] 16:41 -!- DeeKey [n=kulandin@jabber.hst.ru] has joined #t2 16:43 < DeeKey> rxr: I am trying to install the T2 from the T2disk.
