09:19 < jalsot> hi
09:22 < rxr> hi tri and jalsot
09:24 < tri> hm i'm not able to build the fglrx (ati) module in my t2 installation the make.sh script inside the ati package says cat /usr/include/linux/utsrelease.h: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden Error: kernel includes at /usr/include do not match current kernel

09:46 < CIA-9> rene * r24302 /trunk/target/generic/pkgsel/10-minimal-xorg.in:
09:46 < CIA-9> * changed minimal-xorg selection to not hard-enable all xf86-*, but
09:46 < CIA-9> instead set those to their default selectin as some drivers are
09:46 < CIA-9> known to not build by default without human intervention
09:46 < rxr> tri: you need to build the kernel module while the kernel is build
09:46 < jalsot> rxr: as I see in libcap cross-compilation issue, the problem is that in case of calling 'cc' - the host compiler, this call goes through the wrapper, thus the wrapper adds -mcpu=bf537 option to cc which (the host cc) does not understand
09:46 < rxr> tri: you can look into the nvidia package or the various wifi drivers how to do this in t2
09:47 < rxr> jalsot: something lik that I thought, but the debugging on the day we looked at it was not able to reproduce that
09:48 < jalsot> should cmd_wrapper.log help?
09:48 < rxr> when you are in the ./debug.sh mode, what does echo $HOSTCC output ?
09:49 < jalsot> it shows 'cc'
09:49 < jalsot> debug-libcap:[src.libcap.bfin1.20070529.073758.30772.maxi]# echo $HOST_CC
09:49 < jalsot> cc
09:49 < jalsot> the same for $HOSTCC
09:49 < rxr> hm

11:06 < sepp_> we do not have a extrackted kernel source in usr/src, so 3rd party kernel modules (the module part ...) are build right after linux26 when the source is still around
11:08 < rxr> one should add we do not have a lingering kernel source tree somewhere for good reasons: it usually does not match the running kernel anyway, and add-on modules need to be built from exactly the same kernel tree and .config, ...
11:08 < sepp_> yeah ;)
11:08 < sepp_> moin :)
11:08 < rxr> moin moin sepp
11:09 < sepp_> hi rxr, tri
11:11 < tri> hi sepp_
11:11 < tri> ah ok
11:16 < tri> hm ok the magic happens in http://svn.exactcode.de/t2/trunk/package/x11/nvidia/postlinux.conf
11:18 < tri> how does this work: sh $f --extract-only cd N*-Linux-*-pkg* apply_patchfiles cd usr/src/nv
11:19 < sepp_> $f and --extract-only is because the nvidia driver comes in some bin, not tar.gz
11:20 < sepp_> the important point i think are the appended makeopts to let it know where the kernel source is ...

11:30 -!- Stelz [i=stelz@unaffiliated/stelz] has joined #t2
11:31 < tri> ok after the extract-only it cd to the "Nvidia-Linux-Driver" dir and then "apply_patchfiles" ? - for what is this and then it cd to usr/src/nv - and what is then happen - for what are the var_append... ?
11:35 < sepp_> well, apply_patchfiles should be obvious, the nvidia package has a silly layout and was intended to put its source into /usr/src/nv, so the cd - var_append makeopt foo means append foo as option to make
11:36 < sepp_> the dir where the kernel source is ...
11:36 < sepp_> otherwise it would look at /usr/src/linux i guess
11:42 < sepp_> other 3rd party kernel mods dont need match_source_file, --extract-only and apply_patchfiles, but nvidia has 3 architecture specific files
11:42 < tri> ah ok right
11:45 < sepp_> look at other postlinux.conf's some of them need just append makeopt SOMEKDIR ...
11:49 < tri> ah ok http://svn.exactcode.de/t2/trunk/package/network/iwlwifi/postlinux.conf
12:05 < tri> question: [:-)] i have a installed system build from generic with min+xorg+desktop but then i realize that i want to have a few packages in different versions - what is why to do this ? - ok i can make a new target build my system from that target and add the package *desc fo target/$id/package/... but then i have to "reinstall" my whole system or is there a "better" way ?

12:57 < tri> ah ok ?

14:03 < jalsot> does anybody know how is the linux kernel configuration constructed? in which order, etc. - [trying to compile linux26 for blackfin]
14:04 < jalsot> as I found the trunk/arch/blackfin/configs/BF537-STAMP_defconfig is not used in this case - however should be
14:07 < jalsot> it seems, the CONFIG_BIG_ORDER_ALLOC_NOFAIL_MAGIC=3 is missing from .config, and therefore it doesn't compile. I tried to add this to target/embedded/kernel.conf.sh and architecture/blackfin/kernel.conf.m4 but didn't help

14:37 < rxr> in detail kernel and co config is not yet mentioned much in the handbook
14:37 < tri> hm is rxr a bot ?
14:37 < tri> i have read this answer a lot of times ;-)
14:37 < jalsot> :)
14:38 < jalsot> yes, right I was checking trac for more info but didn't find anything
14:38 < jalsot> is there a wiki available somewhere maybe?
14:39 < rxr> we could wiki in the trac
14:39 < rxr> we had some wiki tests, but so far they where not that successful
14:40 < tri> hm - right now it is not possible to edit the wiki pages in trac ?
14:41 < rxr> don't now
14:41 < rxr> did not try recently
14:41 < rxr> have you tried?
14:41 < rxr> did you register ?
14:41 < tri> wait i try it right now
14:41 < jalsot> no, didn't try
14:41 < jalsot> yes, I did
14:41 < jalsot> I would document things - but first I need to learn :)
14:42 < tri> hm no i think i can not edit pages in the wiki ?
14:42 < jalsot> actually I have not enough knowledge about t2 to write wiki
14:43 < jalsot> hmm, I cannot find 'edit' button as well
14:43 < rxr> I can check the wiki
14:44 < tri> and i think: wiki.t2-project.org would be nicer than http://bugs.t2-project.org/wiki
14:44 < rxr> you should be able to add additional kernel settings:
14:44 < rxr> Config
14:44 < rxr> enable expert settings
14:44 < rxr> to go Linux Kernel Options
14:44 < rxr> select Apply custom kernel build configuration settings
14:45 < rxr> And add new rules ala: CONFIG_BIG_ORDER_ALLOC_NOFAIL_MAGIC=3
14:45 < rxr> though I do not know if the = number work
14:45 < rxr> usually one enters X to select rules there
14:46 < rxr> or - maybe better provide the full as named as shown
14:46 < rxr> like config/your-config-id-if-any/linux.cfg
14:46 < rxr> hm - I can edit the wiki
14:47 < rxr> maybe a permission problem
14:47 < jalsot> I tried to add to linux.cfg but didn't help
14:47 < tri> rxr: wiki - yes i think so
14:48 < rxr> yes, you tink permission problem ?

14:52 < rxr> hm - trac permission config does not look exactly comfortable
14:54 < tri> $ trac-admin /path/to/projenv permission list
14:54 < tri> $ trac-admin /path/to/projenv permission add tri WIKI_MODIFY
14:54 < rxr> yeah - I just do not want to handle all individually
14:55 < rxr> is there something like "logged in users" WIKI_MODIFY|WIKI_CREATE ?
14:55 < tri> or to groups: trac-admin /path/to/projenv permission add $group$ WIKI_MODIFY
14:55 < tri> authenticated
14:56 < tri> is the user name for any authenticated (logged in) user.
14:56 < rxr> ok - done
14:57 < rxr> appears to work
14:57 < rxr> all logged in users can wiki create and edit now
14:57 < tri> ty....
14:57 < tri> try...
14:57 < tri> yes works
14:57 < rxr> ok - gotta go
14:57 < rxr> cu later
14:57 < tri> cu
14:58 < jalsot> cu
15:01 < tri> you can also setup "readonly" pages, when you just be sure that these pages can not be changed
15:01 < tri> like the default "wiki startpage"
15:01 < jalsot> tri: how long have you been working with t2?
15:06 < tri> jalsot: hm - not realy working; only playing for quite a 2 month or so
15:06 < tri> ...

15:08 < jalsot> I'm playing just some days and still feel to be lost :)
15:10 < tri> jalsot: no, i think i don't know anything and i also still feel lost - but i like t2 it them to be a good way to learn more about linux and i like the flexibility and the straight forward package managment and last but not least the nice community (for example in this channel) :-)
