16:30 < mtr> http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/84151
16:31 < mtr> "Damit sollen sich eigene Linux-Distributionen nicht nur als ISO-Image erstellen lassen, sondern auch als Live-CD und als virtual appliance für die Ausführung als Gastsystem unter dem Hypervisor Xen."
16:39 < rxr> suse ?
16:39 < rxr> pff "Produce better software: some software-projects still use 16bit processes and wonder why their code doesn't compile on 32bit or 64bit platforms."
17:00 < Demian> are there plans on t2 to support kvm and friends support and packages?
17:00 < rxr> sure
17:01 < rxr> we have well vserver, basic openvz and xen
17:01 < rxr> xen will improve soon and kvm will be in t2 sooner than later
17:01 < rxr> as kvm is in the next .20 kernel anyway
17:01 < rxr> the user-space stuff of kvm is just an adapted qemu
17:01 < rxr> maybe we just patch the qemu package ...
17:02 < Demian> nice to know.
17:05 -!- zod [i=zod@shodan.knid.net] has joined #t2
17:06 < Demian> i think that the chance of kvm to support paravirtualized drivers swould improve a lot its performance, making it a very strong competitor with xen, as also does its integration in kernel and qem compatibility.
17:13 < rxr> yes, kvm is easier to use and setup
17:13 < rxr> when compiled into kernel and qemu it works instantly
17:13 < rxr> where xen is more heavyweight to setup
17:14 < rxr> though has other features for enterprise use, of course
17:18 < Demian> sure. with time several people would help kvm and provide enterprise support.
17:18 < Demian> i leave for lunch.
