15:38 < gr8> how does T2 solve the package management? do you have your own repository?
15:40 < gr8> if I want to add a package to my system, do I have to build everything from scratch again?
15:40 < rxr> yes, we have our own, build from source metadata
15:40 < rxr> you can build from source directly into your running system
15:40 < rxr> or build a binary package once, and share it will all your systems
15:43 < gr8> very cool. is T2 a full alternative to Gentoo on an usual desktop?
15:43 < rxr> well, T2 is different
15:43 < rxr> T2 and Gentoo where created around the same time 10+ years ago
15:43 < rxr> they are different, T2 is more optimized to build whole systems, ISO images, embedded firmware
15:44 < rxr> but you can use the T2 build system to install into the system like Gentoo
15:44 < rxr> Gentoo is a little more optimized for that case though
15:46 < gr8> I don't like Gentoo because it somehow feels very complicated... dunno
15:47 < rxr> T2 is more simple, more direct to the ponit
15:47 < gr8> sounds good
15:47 < rxr> though that makes building into the running system a little more rough :-)
15:47 < gr8> what do you mean?
15:47 < rxr> less guidance, failsaves
15:48 < rxr> less dependency clutter
15:48 < rxr> the build scripts are more streamlined, uncluttered, up-to-the-point
15:49 < rxr> btw. I'm biased, the creator, but just realistic :-)
15:52 < gr8> so maintaining (keeping up-to-date) a working T2 system is more complicated than with gentoo?
15:52 < rxr> not necessarily
15:52 < rxr> it can be as simple as scripts/Emerge -system
15:53 < rxr> but if some package has a new dependency it may fail building something from source, Gentoo may point out a nice dependency warning
15:53 < rxr> as I said, T2 scripts are more simple, and just do what they are told to do, ...
15:55 < rxr> though one usually sees from the error what's missing
15:55 < rxr> needless to say this are corner cases
15:55 < rxr> just want to let you know before you spent hours until you notice that :-)
15:56 < rxr> I personally like the simplicitly, and directness
15:58 < gr8> sounds like a fusion of Slackware and Linux From Scratch :D I think I'll give it a try in Virtualbox
15:58 < rxr> if you have questions best always ask on the mailing list
15:58 < rxr> we are a small gropu and I'm not always here :-)
15:59 < gr8> ok thx
