09:28 < CIA-46> aldas * r37078 /trunk/package/develop/mercurial/mercurial.desc: * updated mercurial (1.6 -> 1.6.2)
09:29 < CIA-46> aldas * r37079 /trunk/package/base/sudo/sudo.desc: * updated sudo (1.7.3 -> 1.7.4)
10:14 <@rxr> hi
10:14 <@rxr> hi Baldzius
10:14 <@rxr> Baldzius: btw. do not merge to instantly into the 8.0 branches
10:14 <@rxr> the linux update broken unionfs, which then breaks every live cd/usb-stick etc. build, ...
10:15 < Baldzius> 2.6.34.2?
10:17 <@rxr> yep
10:17 <@rxr> uninofs patch does no longer apply :-(((
10:17 < Baldzius> lovely
10:17 <@rxr> yep
10:17 <@rxr> I can try, patch that today
10:17 < Baldzius> I wouldn't expect to happen such thing with such a *minor* update
10:17 <@rxr> but for the future mayb leave at least a day between merging trunk changes
10:18 < Baldzius> well you know yourself
10:18 < Baldzius> merging in svn is pain in the ass
10:18 <@rxr> I lost much faith in the Linux kernel, never like'd Linus style too much anyway
10:18 <@rxr> I'm pretty near starting my own multi-server micro-kernel as a hobby to compensate
10:18 < Baldzius> you will leave it for later == most probably you will miss it for good
10:19 <@rxr> I do not find it too much an issue, in fact I find git impossible to work with, ...
10:19 <@rxr> svn merge ... ; svn co ...
10:20 < Baldzius> yeah, git is little bit different
10:20 < Baldzius> but it's way better when it comes to merging
10:44 < rogermason> hello.
10:45 < Baldzius> hey rogermason
10:54 < rogermason> I want to install a binary of ghc in a target. The instructions on the ghc site say to unpack then do ./configure; make install. So I put the following in ghc.conf: main_gh() { ./configure make install} custmain="main_gh" autoextract=1. Build-Target fails: Making post-install adaptions. Found files in /usr/local: /usr/local/bin/ghc (and man similar lines). That location on the _host_ does conatin ghc because I did a test install of
10:54 < rogermason> the instructions. What did I do wrong?
10:56 <@rxr> you could have run this custom, temporary user install just from your shell
10:56 <@rxr> not use T2 for it
10:56 <@rxr> T2 by default does not allow installing stuff into /usr/local, because that is not where the system should place anything
11:08 <@rxr> http://www.t2-project.org/packages/gdb.html
11:09 < rogermason> I'm not trying to install on the build host (emerge), but in a target. i realise I can install manually on any machine installed from the target, but having ghc available to install from a CD/USB makes more sense if it can be done.
11:13 <@rxr> yes, for that you would need to understand this ghc "bootstrapping", and best cross compiling, so that it can be cross compiled by t2 in stage 1
11:22 < rogermason> Maybe I'm getting out of my depth here. I'm quite happy in this case just taking the binary from the ghc site. That is what one does with a manual install. I don't see why anything needs to be compiled, let alone cross-compiled.
11:22 < CIA-46> aldas * r37080 /trunk/scripts/Emerge-Pkg:
11:22 < CIA-46> * improved Emerge-Pkg in conjuction with -system to update installed packages
11:22 < CIA-46> rather target selected from config
11:27 < CIA-46> aldas * r37081 /trunk/target/share/install/init: * added /dev/sr* to device list, this helps to locate cdrom on VirtualBox
11:28 < CIA-46> rene * r37082 /trunk/package/develop/binutils/ (binutils.desc hotfix.patch): * updated binutils (2.20.51.0.5 -> 2.20.51.0.10)
11:37 < CIA-46> aldas * r37083 /trunk/package/base/mkinitrd/initrdinit.sh: * print current year on bootup to look more convenient
11:38 <@rxr> Baldzius: I pretty much like the new silent t2 boot-ups
11:38 <@rxr> just this annoying udev noise must be patched way :-(
11:38 < Baldzius> except udev :)
11:38 <@rxr> yeah, stupid fluff
11:38 <@rxr> guess why we have this older version, ... new ones are not really playing nicer
11:39 < Baldzius> I will merge all 3 commits to 8.0
11:39 <@rxr> please not binutils :-) needs more testing
11:39 <@rxr> only built a minimal with it, ...
11:39 < Baldzius> only mine
11:39 <@rxr> :-)
11:39 <@rxr> and some earlier binutils interim version had regressions, ...
11:40 < Baldzius> 80 81 and 83
11:40 < Baldzius> do you think I should revert linux26 update ?
11:41 <@rxr> if I fid no time to patch unionfs until tomorrow then yes
11:41 <@rxr> otherwise merge the unionfs patch if I hopefully find the sec to patch it
11:41 < Baldzius> ok
11:42 < Baldzius> I'd say we are heading towards 8.0.1
11:42 < Baldzius> only perl cross issue is nasty
11:43 <@rxr> yes
11:43 < Baldzius> and next week 4.5 is coming out (clap)
11:43 <@rxr> maybe try to track it, certainly educating .-)
11:43 <@rxr> 4.5 ?
11:43 < Baldzius> :)
11:43 < Baldzius> kde
11:43 <@rxr> ah
11:44 < Baldzius> have to merge to 8.0 or revert digikam
11:44 < Baldzius> didn't expect 8.0 final to be in mid of July :)
11:45 < Baldzius> anyway 4.5 should be good addition to 8.0 I'd say
11:45 < Baldzius> and updating kde is a *pleasure*
11:46 < Baldzius> with some small glitches from time to time

12:04 < Baldzius> btw, would be good to have something like this: ./scripts/Config -cfg some_config -enable some_package
12:04 < Baldzius> or -disable some_package
12:04 < Baldzius> in batch mode
12:05 <@rxr> to add it to config/.../pkgsel ?
12:06 < Baldzius> ya
12:07 <@rxr> vi ... ?
12:07 <@rxr> certainly not what you wanted to hear, m?
12:09 < Baldzius> no :)
12:09 < Baldzius> just thoughts out loud
12:09 <@rxr> thinking welcome :-)
12:10 < Baldzius> we need something like howto section
12:11 < Baldzius> or tricks
12:11 < Baldzius> now lots of good stuff gets lost on ML
12:11 < CIA-46> rene * r37084 /trunk/package/archiver/pigz/ (. pigz.cache pigz.conf pigz.desc): * added pigz (2.1.6) - A parallel implementation of gzip

12:12 <@rxr> did I mention http://www.t2-project.org/hardware/ entries are welcome, too?

12:12 <@rxr> http://www.t2-project.org/packages/pigz.html <- really faster
12:13 < Baldzius> I think lads over here tested it
12:13 <@rxr> lads ?
12:13 < Baldzius> colleagues :)
12:13 <@rxr> ah
12:13 < Baldzius> irish slang
12:14 * rxr tested it, too
12:14 <@rxr> right now that is
12:14 <@rxr> we got that one, too: http://www.t2-project.org/packages/lbzip2.html
12:15 <@rxr> maybe we should make those frontends the default under the name *gzip* and *bzip2*, replacing the default, single-threaded tools, if those packages are slected
12:15 <@rxr> certainly pretty much speeding up t2 builds :-)

12:46 <@rxr> rogermason: btw. your custmain= ... is very evil
12:46 <@rxr> any reason you created this keychain.conf ?
12:53 < Baldzius> rxr: have you booted up latest trunk with my pam/shadow/sysvinit updates?
12:53 < Baldzius> this could be more evil
12:54 <@rxr> pam fails to build for me :-(
12:54 <@rxr> do not yet merge
12:54 <@rxr> you merged your installer changes also today, I would in general leave at least 1 day between merges, one never knows where something bites back

13:17 < Baldzius> hm, compiles clean for me
13:17 <@rxr> certainly some trivial configure typo
13:17 <@rxr> will check soonishe
13:21 < rogermason> 'rogermason: btw. your custmain= ... is very evil'. I suppose I should have used a hook?
13:22 <@rxr> yep, take a look into what I converted it, hooks :-)
13:25 < rogermason> I think I made the custom conf b/c the install uses just make, c.f. configure; make etc.
14:03 < rogermason> koan: I just added my 2 cents.
14:15 < koan> rogermason: nice comment, what are you using T2 for?
