10:07 < rxr> re
10:15 < rxr> hi Baldzius
10:17 < rxr> Baldzius: release "codename" phoenix, or "not quite dead yet" ?
10:32 < Baldzius> hey rxr
10:32 < Baldzius> :)
10:32 < Baldzius> sounds fancy
10:56 < rxr> which one ?
10:56 < rxr> historically I choose the release names from phrases in the music that matched and I just happen to listen while I work on the release
10:56 < Baldzius> phoenix with it's explanation :)
10:57 < rxr> Phoenix might match nicely, but I have no music with Phoenix in the text at hand
10:57 < Baldzius> phoenix sounds great
10:57 < rxr> whlie I think I listen to something with not quite dead yet in the song some weeks ago :-9
10:57 < rxr> ok, so I keep that, I already used it in the news index
10:57 < rxr> was just not quite sure yet
10:57 < rxr> http://www.t2-project.org/
10:59 < Baldzius> latest autotools update prevents autogen from compiling
10:59 < Baldzius> not a big issue I'd say
10:59 < Baldzius> affects both trees
10:59 < rxr> autogen is not so used / needed right?
10:59 < rxr> maybe it is easily patchable ?
10:59 < Baldzius> hardly
10:59 < rxr> http://www.t2-project.org/releases/
11:00 < rxr> Baldzius: but please don't delete it :-)
11:00 < Baldzius> I don't this is a problem
11:00 < rxr> http://www.t2-project.org/releases/8.0.html
11:00 < Baldzius> I won't delete anything from 8.0 4 sure
11:00 < rxr> suggests for text on those places welcome
11:00 < rxr> Baldzius: thanks
11:01 < rxr> you know I really like keeping some older stuff
11:01 < rxr> sepcailly if it is fixable or whatever
11:01 < Baldzius> I don't mind them only don't like when they stop my build
11:01 < rxr> we really get quite some hits and PR from being the last place on earth for some esoteric things
11:01 < Baldzius> that's all :)
11:01 < rxr> I know
11:01 < rxr> put it in your blacklist
11:01 < Baldzius> yeah, already have over 200
11:02 < koan> rxr: "classic installer images can not be fully cross-compiled" -> shouldn't 'not' be 'now'?
11:02 < rxr> thanks
11:04 < koan> btw, what's about the shift from T2 2.1 to 6.0? why was there such a gap in the version numbers?
11:04 < rxr> we wanted to use the year - 2000 as version and release once a year
11:04 < rxr> s 6.0 was in 2006, 7.0 was supposed to be in 2007 and 8.0 was targetted for 2008
11:05 < rxr> unfortunately that did not work out too well :-)
11:05 < koan> :-)
11:06 < rxr> another contributing factor was also that ROCK Linux, which we forked off, relesaed a 3.0 IIRC, without much modifications, while we continued to release majorly modifed versions as 2.1, 2.2 so that the version number in 2006 also reflected the majorly changed since ROCK Linux
11:06 < rxr> though ROCK Linux appears to be quite dead now
11:09 < rxr> koan: not typo fix committed, now
11:10 < rxr> http://www.t2-project.org/ - news entry updated, likewise
11:12 -!- Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: TobiX
11:16 < Baldzius> http://www.t2-project.org/download/
11:16 < Baldzius> 7 is still points as stable
11:17 < rxr> fixed
11:17 < Baldzius> one line below
11:17 < Baldzius> Where "7.0" can be substituted with other stable series verison numbers.
11:17 < rxr> thanks :-)(
11:18 -!- Netsplit over, joins: TobiX
11:18 < Baldzius> looks good
11:18 < Baldzius> when we can expect DW announcement?
11:19 < rxr> I just write the release email and will cc them
11:24 < Baldzius> ok
11:25 < rxr> what do you think about updating the top banner image with a firework background instead of the peoples ?
11:28 < rxr> mail is going out, I hope you like it
11:30 < Baldzius> change might be good
11:30 < Baldzius> but current fine is ok also
11:30 < Baldzius> *one*
11:30 < rxr> I mean news celebration wise
11:30 < rxr> we can switch back in some weeks
11:30 < rxr> http://rene.rebe.de/photos/?p=/Berlin/2008/Festival%20of%20Lights/&index=216
11:33 < Baldzius> ccache ver 3 runs much better for me
11:33 < Baldzius> only will have to figure out why cmake doesn't hit the cache
11:33 < rxr> did cmake hti before?
11:33 < Baldzius> seems like it's saving but can't find it after
11:33 < Baldzius> not sure
11:33 < Baldzius> my VM wasn't hiting ccache for ages
11:33 < rxr> btw. cmake sucks anyway ,,,
11:33 * rxr hiding
11:34 < Baldzius> I like percentage progress bar :)
11:34 < rxr> oh, didn't? a a customer it does
11:34 < rxr> personally I stopped using cmake on my build cluster becaue the FS overhead was bigger then the savings, also too frequent system header changes often invalidated the cache, ...
11:36 < Baldzius> what you mean stoped using on cluster?
11:36 < rxr> on my build machines
11:36 < Baldzius> don't compile any cmake related stuff?
11:36 < rxr> but that should not stop you improving it :-)
11:36 < rxr> just wanted to merely note that I'm not using it too much and often
11:49 < rxr> you can reload the t2 page in your brosser, get a firework
11:56 < Baldzius> +1 small clients fails against latest autoconf
11:56 < rxr> hm?
11:57 < Baldzius> autoconf 2.66 we have in trunk/8.0
11:57 < Baldzius> breaks at least 2 small packages
11:57 < Baldzius> openct and autogen so far
11:57 < Baldzius> on 64bits build
11:58 < rxr> certainly patchable in one way or another
11:58 < rxr> do you like the fireworkx?
12:00 < Baldzius> the one on left looks like UFO :)
12:01 < rxr> overall good or not so much?
12:01 < koan> looks nice!
12:02 < rxr> I guess adding some "T2 8.9 is here." text would be nice, too?
12:02 < rxr> 8.0 eve
12:02 < rxr> n
12:02 < koan> makes sense indeed
12:10 < rxr> you can reload the page
12:10 < rxr> who like's who doesn'tÃ
12:11 < koan> I like it this way
12:12 < rxr> thanks

12:47 < rogermason> An update on my attempt to build trunk on 2.7.0-rc2. The build completed after updating e2fsprogs. There are 4 packages that seem not to have built: xf86-input-wacom, xf86-video-radeonhd, xf86-video-vga and xf86-video-via. There is also a src.util-linux... directory left behind, but no corresponding *.err file, so I'm presuming it is OK.
12:48 < rxr> I make a mental note about the xorg packages, maybe their are left lingering upstream
12:49 < rxr> Baldzius: now 8.0 / trunk listings available on the package matrix
12:49 < rxr> mirror mostly there, too

13:17 < digitaloktay> hi
13:17 < rxr> hi digitaloktay
13:18 < digitaloktay> new release :)
13:18 -!- Topic for #t2: T2 SDE | 8.0-rc2 released! | The T2 Open System Development Environment (SDE) | http://www.t2-project.org/
13:18 -!- Topic set by rxr [] [Sat Dec 12 19:27:02 2009]
13:20 < Baldzius> rogermason: ignore xf86-*
13:21 < rxr> lunch - cu
13:22 < digitaloktay> bon apetit
13:22 < digitaloktay> ^^
13:23 < rogermason> Baldzius: Not sure what you mean.
13:25 < Baldzius> ignore those errors
13:25 < digitaloktay> can anyone change topic
13:26 < rogermason> Baldzius: yes, but what if I want to use my wacom tablet?
13:27 < Baldzius> good question
13:27 < Baldzius> I'll take a look at xorg git if there's new release
13:29 < rogermason> Baldzius: I see from the wacom site that one should use their 0.10.7 release for xorg x-server >= 1.7, and the version I have here is 0.10.3 with x-server 1.8.2.
13:31 < Baldzius> give me download location
13:33 < rogermason> http://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxwacom/files/xf86-input-wacom/xf86-input-wacom-0.10.7.tar.bz2/download
13:42 < Baldzius> damn
13:42 < Baldzius> build id changed :/
13:42 < Baldzius> svn up, updated without testing
13:43 < Baldzius> it wasn't compiling before anyway
13:43 < CIA-29> aldas * r36781 /trunk/package/xorg/xf86-input-wacom/xf86-input-wacom.desc: * updated xf86-input-wacom (0.10.3 -> 0.10.7)
13:49 < rogermason> so I should run ./scripts/Update-Pkg xf86-input-wacom 0.10.7?
13:50 < Baldzius> no
13:50 < Baldzius> svn up
13:51 < Baldzius> and then Emerge-Pkg if you want this on host
13:52 < Baldzius> or ./scripts/Build-Target -cfg "config" -job 5-xf86-input-wacom for build
13:53 < Baldzius> what you were doing when you got those errors?
13:53 < rogermason> Build-Target
13:53 < Baldzius> then you need to repeat it
13:53 < Baldzius> as I said
13:53 < Baldzius> for 1 job
13:53 < rogermason> I presume only the failed packages will be rebuilt?
13:54 < Baldzius> yes
13:54 < Baldzius> -job [stage]-[package]
13:55 < Baldzius> or you can remove .err file
13:55 < Baldzius> and start Build-Target again
13:56 < Baldzius> rm -rf build/[your_build]/var/adm/logs/5-xf86-input-wacom.err
14:07 < rogermason> ./scripts/Build-Target -cfg default -job 5-xf86-input-wacom. Then I get:Finished downloading 389959 bytes in 2.397 seconds (162708.000 bytes/sec).
14:07 < rogermason> cksum-test (bzip2): download/mirror/x/xf86-input-wacom-0.10.7.tar.bz2
14:07 < rogermason> chroot: failed to run command `bin/bash': No such file or directory
14:07 < rogermason>
14:07 < rogermason> Package build ended abnormally!
14:07 < rogermason> !> Usually a package build creates either a *.log
14:07 < rogermason> !> or a *.err file. Neither the 1st nor the 2nd is
14:08 < rogermason> !> there. So I'm going to create a *.err file now
14:08 < rogermason> !> and abort the build process.
14:08 < rogermason>
14:18 < rxr> what do you build?
14:18 < Baldzius> rm -rf download/mirror/x/xf86-input-wacom-0.10.*
14:19 < Baldzius> ./scripts/Download xf86-input-wacom
14:19 < Baldzius> it's fiine for me
14:19 < rxr> when bin/bash it failing you either try to native build for an arechitecture your host can not run, or have another, fundamental low-level libc et al. problem
14:24 < rxr> should have migrated the t2 sites to our new colocated server, ...
14:24 < rxr> our line is of course dying under the load
14:25 < rxr> already shuffles otu 50% mbit then the line has nominally garuanteed by our ISP, ... :-)
14:26 < rxr> ..., but did not delay the release again :-)
14:39 < rxr> will migrate the t2 web services in the next days, after the release storm
14:51 < Baldzius> rxr: change channel topic
14:51 < rxr> tried, I'm not channel operator
14:52 < rxr> guess freenode has new resrictions, guess I need to register somewhere?
14:52 < Baldzius> ChanServ
14:54 < rogermason> rxr: generic x86/i686 minimal + xorg. I built the target yesterday/overnight and there were 4 failed packages, of which xf86-input-wacom is the first I'm trying to fix. I wonder if the problem has to do with updating svn between the overnight build and trying wacom. i now have two default directories in build/: default-8.0-trunk-generic-x86-i686-linux and default-9.0-trunk-generic-x86-i686-linux.
14:55 < rxr> doubt
14:55 < rxr> most likely they are just broken as not so up-to-date maintained by the upstream x.org folks
14:56 < Baldzius> I've updated it
14:56 < Baldzius> he was building on trunk while it was ver 8
14:56 < Baldzius> now he has 2 builds
14:57 < Baldzius> build id changed
15:01 < digitaloktay> hi rxr can you chaning the topic :)
15:15 < rxr> 14:51 < rxr> tried, I'm not channel operator
15:15 < rxr> 14:52 < rxr> guess freenode has new resrictions, guess I need to register somewhere?
15:17 < digitaloktay> ah sry
15:45 -!- Baldzius [~aldas@87-198-133-94.ptr.magnet.ie] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
16:29 < rogermason> I deleted the build/default-9.0-trunk-generic-x86-i686-linux directory and then created a symlink: default-9.0-trunk-generic-x86-i686-linux -> default-8.0-trunk-generic-x86-i686-linux. xf86-input-wacom-0.10.7 then built OK after I turned off paranoia checks.
16:30 < rxr> .oO yeah - well, ...
16:36 < rogermason> I didn't fancy rebuilding the whole thing - the machine is only 1.8 GHz/500 MB ram.
16:36 < rxr> yeah, it's fine for a quick hack test :-)
16:41 < koan> downloading t2-8.0-minimal-x86_64.iso at 2.5 KB/sec -> the release seems pretty popular :-)
16:43 < rxr> yes, I should really have migrated that on the new colocation
16:43 < rxr> also it's a pitty that the other mirrors do not sync automatically
16:43 < rxr> e.g. ibilio, ...
16:43 < rxr> would have taken some pressure, ...
16:43 < rxr> well, we'll improve
16:47 < rxr> ok, we got heised ...
16:47 < rxr> http://www.heise.de/open/meldung/Meta-Distribution-T2-in-Version-8-0-1039094.html
16:47 < rxr> I SHOULD HAVE MIGRATED THE SERVER INDEED, ... !!!
16:50 < rxr> this is the first time we got a new on heise, ever, and we tried pretty hard with 6.0 and 7.0
16:56 < digitaloktay> what cflags do i use for athlon II x3 440 (3* 3Ghz) ??
17:03 < rxr> in T2 or elsewhere?
