10:49 < tfl0pz> i'm trying to update glibc and gcc on 7.0-rc2, taking them from trunk/package... and obviously im doing something wrong... stage 0 on glibc is complaining bout unwind support...
10:49 < tfl0pz> any advices?
10:49 < rxr> maybe gcc or other incompatibilities
10:50 < rxr> the branches are really meant to be stable in it's own, not with abritrary mixing
10:51 < rxr> if you want a newer glibc use the 8.0 tag, soon branch or trunk
10:51 < tfl0pz> ok i'll try that
10:51 < tfl0pz> thanks
10:51 < rxr> maybe use the 8.0-rc tag
10:52 < rxr> because trunk got a gcc update to 4.4 which is not yet fully "stable"
10:52 < tfl0pz> aham
10:53 < tfl0pz> i'll try with 8.0-rc then
10:55 < CIA-17> rene * r34905 /trunk/package/editors/lyx/lyx.desc: * updated lyx (1.6.4 -> 1.6.4.2)
10:55 < tfl0pz> btw when should we expect 8.0 branch :) i've been waiting for a long time for it :)
10:55 < CIA-17> rene * r34907 /trunk/package/network/wireshark/wireshark.desc: * updated wireshark (1.3.1 -> 1.2.4)
10:55 < CIA-17> rene * r34906 /trunk/package/develop/git/git.desc: * updated git (1.6.5.2 -> 1.6.5.3)
11:12 < Baldzius> tfl0pz: it seems it will take a while
11:12 < rxr> hi Baldzius
11:12 < Baldzius> hey rxr
11:14 < rxr> Baldzius: have you seen my udev note last evening?
11:14 < Baldzius> sorry, missed that
11:14 < rxr> 18:31 < rxr> Baldzius btw. we'll have a major problem as latest udev start to
11:14 < rxr> use glib
11:14 < rxr> 18:31 < rxr> I consider this 1000%++ harmful
11:14 < rxr> 18:31 < rxr> for early init boot related stuff
11:14 < rxr> 18:32 < rxr> not to mention our dietlibc minimal static linking for size
11:14 < rxr> optimized intird
11:14 < rxr> 18:32 < rxr> this all sucks majorly
11:15 < Baldzius> ic
11:15 < rxr> still have to take a closer look
11:19 < Baldzius> hm, but we will have to come with a solution one day anyway, especially when more *crap* are going to be merged into udev upstream ver
11:19 < rxr> udev++
11:20 < rxr> 18:36 < rxr> if udev continues to bug me I guess I'll either have to rewrite it
11:20 < rxr> in C++ or Lua
11:20 < rxr> 18:36 < rxr> or start my own migration to another kernel ...

11:36 < Baldzius> I wonder how far devtmpfs can be used for udev replacement
11:36 < rxr> I think I saw core linux hackers criticism scrolling by on one of the kernel trap like websites ...
11:36 < Baldzius> it's coming with .32 release
11:36 < rxr> http://rene.rebe.name/2009-11-05/firts-steps-with-an-bsd-dragonfly/
11:43 < Baldzius> we have here over 50 FreeBSD servers
11:43 < rxr> well, FreeBSD is a no-go for me
11:43 < Baldzius> I have mixed emotions about configuring bsd servers
11:43 < rxr> I need to move to modern designs, best micro-kernel
11:43 < rxr> everything is wasted lifetime
11:43 < Baldzius> but it's definently much easier than debian
11:48 < rxr> yeah, less cooks to poison the meal
11:49 < rxr> still, I'll not waste my own time touching a monolythic kernel ever again
11:49 < rxr> can not afford a typo in the fan driver, PPP, tcp whatever to cause downtime
