12:51 < koan> when I compile a package that is not (yet :-)) in T2, I get the error "ld: cannot find -lXft", however libxft _is_ installed, how can I point ld to the right place for it?
12:53 < rxr> probably your new package is not quering te library path via pkg-config etc. and xft is in /usr/X11/...
12:53 < rxr> gotta lunch - cu

13:03 < michael-i> Hello everyone. I'm trying to build trunk with the default options. It is failing to build lilo with the error message "Created file outside allowed top-level dir"
13:05 < michael-i> Is this a permissions error? I have the logs but do now know enough about t2's inner workings to attempt to fix or debug this further.
13:09 < mpp> what os are you building on ?
13:12 < michael-i> OpenSUSE 11.0 (2.6.25.5-1.1-pae)
13:15 < michael-i> I've posted 1-lilo.err here (http://pastebin.ca/1240538)

13:48 < mpp> michael-i might wanna try building on t2-host
13:49 < michael-i> mpp, will do. I have a VM setup with t2 but it's a bit slower than our build server ;)
13:51 < mpp> yes building on most major distros simply doesn't work

15:45 < mpp> strange error michael-i
15:45 < michael-i> mpp, I've yet to build a working image :( My FreeBSD experience has cursed my Linux abilities
15:46 < mpp> ahm...
15:46 < mpp> are you using the most recent svn ?
15:47 < mpp> what t2 iso did you use to install the host ?
15:47 < michael-i> yes, I sync it every morning and attempt clean default builds
15:47 < mpp> i see
15:47 < michael-i> that host was installed from 7.0-rc2
15:47 < mpp> should be working
15:47 < mpp> how much ram is on the machine ?
15:47 < mpp> swap partition
15:47 < mpp> and free space
15:48 < mpp> on hd
15:48 < mpp> just check that now overflow due to limited ressources
15:48 < michael-i> the build server has 4gb but i think the vm has a limited 256mb
15:50 < mpp> thats not enough
15:51 < mpp> also when the swap space is small machine is likely to fail on building
15:51 < mpp> i recommend 512mb + 512mb ram+swap
15:51 < michael-i> I'm restarting it with some more resources (1gb ram + 1gb swap)
15:51 < mpp> also there should be 1gig freespace on the hd
15:53 < michael-i> sweet...now I'm getting "devbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0 ..." output every time i press a key
15:53 < michael-i> that's a new one
15:54 < mpp> what vm is it you are using ?
15:54 < michael-i> parallels 3.x on leopard
15:54 < mpp> ah...
15:55 < mpp> that sounds more like rxr could help you
15:55 < mpp> i have no clue on mac - stuff
15:55 < mpp> sorry !
15:55 < michael-i> I should just start fresh on our build server instead of torturing my poor laptop
15:55 < mpp> you could - but you be better of using a native t2 host for building
15:56 < mpp> akair you don't ?
15:56 < michael-i> any recommendations for virtualization?
15:57 < michael-i> that's what I'm trying to setup, a t2-trunk vm host on our server
15:57 < mpp> ahm...
15:57 < mpp> actually no virtualizitation works on t2-trunk host atm
15:58 < mpp> if you have a linux box running
15:58 < mpp> try vmware
15:59 < michael-i> I was trying to avoid vmware and stick to something cli based. I'll keep looking
15:59 < mpp> the thing is - in my experience - the t2 building process is quite heavy for the vm
16:00 < mpp> so far from a performance point of view - i would recommend vmware
16:00 < mpp> if you need a trunk iso - i could push one to the server
16:00 < mpp> i happen to build them like once a week
16:02 < michael-i> I'd like to reinstall the server in the future. But until I can successfully build an x86 and blackfin image, it may not be worth doing. We're looking for a base build system which supports those two archs.
16:03 < michael-i> Can I install 7.0-rc2 and upgrade it with the new sources?
16:03 < mpp> if have a machine with enough ram - you could use a live image of t2
16:04 < michael-i> Would 4GB do?
16:04 < mpp> i guess so - never tried myself
16:04 < mpp> grab the rescue image
16:04 < mpp> do a svn co
16:05 < mpp> and try building a minimal target
16:06 < michael-i> I'll give that a try on the server tomorrow. Is anyone actively using blackfin targets (that you know of)?
16:07 < mpp> ask rxr - i suppose he does
16:07 < mpp> good luck michael-i
16:07 < michael-i> gotcha, thanks :)
16:08 < michael-i> enough stress for today, time to head home through the rain
16:08 -!- michael-i [n=michael-@141.41.40.103] has quit []
16:13 < rxr> yes, we had a blackfin project
16:13 < rxr> but this answer was 5m too late :-(
16:13 < mpp> well there is irlog on the website :-)
16:14 < mpp> how are you doing rxr ?
16:14 < rxr> yeah
16:14 < rxr> well - fine, busy, fine
16:14 < mpp> k
16:14 < rxr> (and I have birthday, today)
16:15 < rxr> so I'll leave office before 20:00 :-)

16:17 < koan> rxr: I can't find the fixfilediff commando that's mentioned in the T2 handbook
16:18 < mpp> herzlichen glühstrumpf ! tataaaa --- :-)
16:35 < rxr> koan: that's available when you are in the debug environment of a failed package
16:35 < rxr> koan: cd src.
16:35 < rxr> koan: ./debug.sh
16:35 < rxr> and it should be available in this debug env.
16:36 < rxr> mpp: thanks :-)
16:36 < koan> ok I'll try
16:43 < koan> nice, now it builds
16:44 < koan> I'll clean up the desc file later and send it to you, which category should I assign it to? extra/login?
16:44 < rxr> depends what kind of package you added there
16:45 < rxr> misc/share/PKG-CATEGORIES contains the current categories
16:45 < koan> slim, a simple graphical login manager, like xdm, but without xdmcp features etcetera
16:46 < rxr> something with login sounds good
16:47 < koan> and how should I set the build priority?
16:47 < rxr> either leave it random (from what you copied) or 800.000
16:47 < koan> ok
16:47 < rxr> in theory we resort them form reference builds and deps
16:47 < koan> and what with the CROSS flag?
16:47 < rxr> and the Priority tag is on the TODO for removal
16:48 < rxr> remove the CROSS tag if you copied one, if someone reviews / tests that it cross builds he/she will add it
16:48 < rxr> until it's known / tested it should not be there
16:48 < koan> ok
16:51 < koan> it's actually quite simple to add a package to T2 :-)
16:51 < koan> years ago I wrote a package for Fink, and I remember it was much more difficult
16:53 < rxr> :-)
16:55 < koan> and the Fink people were less friendly to newbies :-)
17:59 < mtr> rxr: happy birthday, rene :)
18:00 < mtr> 22M /work/T2/t2/build/k-8.0-trunk-embedded-avr32-cross/TOOLCHAIN/rootfs.squashfs
18:00 < mtr> -> Done!
18:01 < mtr> ^-- embedded/generic build for avr32, updated uclibc, gcc-4.2.2.atmel and binutils-2.17.atmel
18:01 < mtr> now I have to wait for the ngw100 board to actually test it ...
18:15 < rxr> mtr: we did not yet wire up a ngw100 kernel config
18:16 < rxr> mtr: if you have not done something special you probably got a stk1000 kernel
18:16 < rxr> mtr: and there also is a trap with the architecture ID, I do not remeber off hand if t2 currently generated images with the new or the old id
18:17 < rxr> when we started avr32 work with atmel the next free arch ID was choosen for the u-boot image, but in the meantime some other arch was accepted with it upstream (blackfin?) - so the u-boot image arch ID was revisited
18:17 < rxr> just to inform you about the 2 most common early adaptoer "headaches" .-)
18:44 < mtr> thanks for the hints
18:45 < mtr> I extended the arch/avr32/config.in to have an option to choose from the list of kernel supported boards
18:46 < mtr> and added a linux26 hook to run the 'make ${board}_defconfig' before running the common kernel config
