20:04 < mpp> hey there
20:13 < rxr> hi
20:16 < mpp> hey rxr how are you
20:17 < rxr> ouhm - busy and overworked :-)
20:17 < mpp> sorry about that
20:17 < mpp> anything others could help you with ?
20:18 < rxr> ouhm - well - daily t2 package upadates would help .-)
20:18 < rxr> or general t2 bug hunting :-)
20:18 < rxr> the other work is my daily job on the desk .-) guess you do not want to help with that
20:19 < mpp> i would if i hadn't similar symptoms :-) LOL
20:20 < mpp> maybe you 've got a minute for a short question
20:21 < mpp> is it easily possible to integrate /dev/md into the stone installer
20:21 < mpp> i mean the mdadm tool is straightforward
20:21 < mpp> but it would be cool if /dev/mdX could be used during install via stone
20:22 < mpp> for know i am making a vm install with prepared /dev/md0 and grub menu.lst + fstab changes
20:22 < mpp> to boot
20:22 < mpp> the rootfs on /dev/md0
20:28 < rxr> wasn't there some stone menu for that already? hm.
20:28 < rxr> if there isn't yet: yes, that would be cool :-)
20:29 < mpp> im checking the necessary deps for that
20:29 < mpp> at least to make it manual
20:29 < mpp> manually
20:29 < rxr> package/base/stone/stone_mod_install.sh might be a good place to start and/or add it
20:31 < mpp> yep the thing is : the installdisk target does not have mdadm included . so on a bare-metal system you cannot create a /dev/md even if the kernel has autodetecting md's
20:35 < Ragnarin> uhm it should be very easy to include it
20:38 < mpp> i think the kernel config as it's used loads raid1 module but does not automount /dev/md so for rootfs it is not suitable for now
20:38 < mpp> checking the kernel config
20:38 < mpp> ...
20:39 < Ragnarin> the kernel doesn't seem to do md autodetection in the initrd phase
20:39 < Ragnarin> so you have to write the appropriate mdadm.conf to the initre
20:39 < Ragnarin> initrd*
20:39 < mpp> ahm...
20:40 < mpp> nope the raid1 is loaded as module
20:40 < Ragnarin> yes
20:40 < mpp> the md is builtin
20:40 < mpp> yes into the initrd sorry
20:40 < mpp> missed that one
20:41 < Ragnarin> would be a lot more preferable to get the kernel to autodetect them tho
20:41 < mpp> yep i think building the raid1 module into the kernel would make more sense
20:41 < Ragnarin> try it and see if the autodetection works then?
20:42 < mpp> i will
20:42 < mpp> there are a bunch of modules needed before the mdraid can start automatic in the boot phase
20:42 < mpp> sd_mod
20:42 < mpp> md-mod
20:42 < mpp> and maybe multipath also
20:42 < mpp> but thats lower prio
20:43 < mpp> raid 1 booting is what im into for the server
20:43 < Ragnarin> same
20:43 < mpp> the grub is rather trivial
20:44 < Ragnarin> the only problem is the mdadm.conf in initrd ... it's easy to forget to rerun mkinitrd when you make changes
20:45 < mpp> how do i include the raid1 into the initrd ?
20:46 < mpp> or are all the modules in it ?
20:46 < mpp> i guess not ...
20:46 < Ragnarin> it's already included in trunk as a module
20:46 < Ragnarin> since friday
20:46 < Ragnarin> update the mkinitrd package
20:47 < mpp> okay
20:53 < mpp> does the mtab get into the initrd ?
20:53 < Ragnarin> no
20:53 < Ragnarin> the mdadm.conf is copied over tho
20:55 < mpp> right so as of friday booting over /dev/md0 should work
20:56 < mpp> kernel params and fstab adjusted ?
20:56 < Ragnarin> no you have to adjust that yourself :)
20:56 < mpp> which part ..
20:57 < Ragnarin> kernel params and fstab
20:57 < mpp> yes thats clear
20:57 < mpp> i mean the update initrd and the kernel are able to mount /dev/md0
20:57 < mpp> with the raid1 and md modules in the initrd
20:57 < mpp> thats what i meant
20:57 < Ragnarin> yes
20:58 < mpp> alright
20:58 < mpp> lets give it a shot now
20:58 < mpp> ill report back ...
20:58 < Ragnarin> you also need te make sure your mdadm in built with dietlibc
20:59 < Ragnarin> that's the default since friday, but if you're using an old config, you'll have te select that by hand (in the libc options)
20:59 < mpp> right
20:59 < mpp> okay
20:59 < mpp> i did svn up
21:09 < mpp> rebuilding the mdadm pkg only
21:10 < Ragnarin> you also need to rebuild mkinitrd
21:11 < mpp> roger that
22:03 < mpp> okay didn't quiet work
22:03 < mpp> the initrd seems not beeing update properly by me
22:04 < Ragnarin> do you have a working mdadm.conf in your running system?
22:04 -!- Baldzius [n=Baldzius@89.127.175.95] has quit ["Leaving"]
22:13 < mpp> nope
22:13 < mpp> i guess thats the problem
22:14 < mpp> the rootfs does not become ready
22:14 < mpp> and ' ... want to scream .... '
22:14 < mpp> we all know that one :-)
22:38 < mpp> gotta go folks
22:38 < mpp> good night - good fight :-)
22:40 < Ragnarin> lol
