09:59 < rxr> the touch post above appears to be a coreutils regreeion
10:00 < rxr> or (as far as I have taken a look now) is just a new printout visualizing a kernel bug
10:00 < rxr> still tracking ...
10:01 < mtr> ah ok ;-) I was just wondering ...
10:02 < rxr> yeah - me was wondering about the noise in the build and some stray failures, likewise :-((((
10:02 < rxr> btw. thanks for fixing the file cross build regression :-)
10:02 < CIA-4> mtr * r29288 /trunk/package/network/l7-filter/l7-filter.desc: * updated l7-filter (2.17 -> 2.18)
10:20 < mtr> yw :)
10:21 < mtr> what do you think about the uname wrapper, can't we drop the stderr message?
10:21 < mtr> "You should not call uname during the build!"
10:22 < mtr> somehow I cannot get cmake 2.6.0 to build with the current uname wrapper message ...
10:22 < mtr> btw. I updated the kde stuff to 4.0.5, but build is still running
10:26 < rxr> the warning was intentional to remind people to actually fix the package and not use name at all ...
10:26 < rxr> maybe I take a look then to adapt cmake for the message
11:22 < CIA-4> rene * r29289 /trunk/package/base/coreutils/utimens-hotfix.patch:

12:52 < xming> where can I get linux-2.6.21-rc7-u1.diff.gz? it's not in http://dl.t2-project.org/mirror/7.0/l/
12:55 < rxr> I take a look
12:57 < xming> thanks, is it an unionfs patch?
12:58 < xming> is it this one? ftp://ftp.am-utils.org/pub/unionfs/OLD/unionfs-2.0/linux-2.6.21-rc7-u1.diff.gz
12:59 < rxr> the possibly, the original Url is in the packages's .desc file in the [U]rl tag
13:06 < rxr> looks liek the file is on our mirror
13:06 < rxr> http://dl.t2-project.org/mirror/7.0/l/
13:06 < xming> thanks, it's unionfs patch
13:06 < rxr> of course with bzip2 compression, as usual
13:07 < xming> ftp://ftp.fsl.cs.sunysb.edu/pub/unionfs/ (in the desc) needs user/pass now
13:07 < xming> bz2? the .desc looks for gz
13:08 < rxr> yes, t2 build scripts auto-convert the downloads to bz2 etc.
13:08 < rxr> when using t2 mirrors
13:08 < xming> well it didn't find the file
13:11 < rxr> stange looks like it is there
13:11 < xming> ah I have this http://64.251.30.248/mirror_t2/7.0 in Mirror-Cache and THAT mirror does not have it
13:11 < rxr> ok - back to work for now
13:11 < xming> how can I change mirror?
13:11 < xming> and .de is better than miame for me
13:12 < xming> I edit the Mirror-cache file?
13:15 < xming> editig the file does the trick thanks
13:20 < mtr> you can try: ./scripts/Download -mirror
13:25 < xming> thanks mtr
13:26 < mtr> yw :)
13:32 < xming> so 7.0 is stuck with kernel 2.6.21.7? If I want newer I have to go to 8.0/trunk?
13:34 < rxr> you can just emerge the kernel from that branch, yes
13:34 < CIA-4> rene * r29291 /trunk/package/network/plptools/gcc43.patch: * fixed plptools for gcc-4.3
13:34 < rxr> or just overlay the kernel in your target
13:36 < xming> ah ok, I am feeling really stupid here, it seems that T2 is really flexible and all I want to do is possible but the limiting factor is me ATM
13:40 < rxr> you're welcome - no problem - we know source building (expert) systems have a "steep"(?) learning curve
13:40 < rxr> that's why we are (sometimes) here
13:53 -!- hwinkel [n=hwinkel@port-87-193-170-219.static.qsc.de] has quit [Connection timed out]
13:57 < xming> well I have been slef source building for a long time (10 years, starting from Linux (sls), solaris 6, slack, lfs, gentoo). Gentoo has made my life easier to maintain all my servers, after 7 years of Gentoo I know the ins and outs of the build system. Now it's like going back 10 years to learn something tootally new, but as I don't have the patience no more to read/try/learn :) I am jumping in the middle of nowhere and trying to get waht I want :)
13:59 < xming> Gentoo solved my problems 7 years ago, but as 2008's problem is not the same as 2001, I need (maybe) T2 to solve my problems
14:00 < xming> going self made cross-compiler chain/tools under gentoo is really a pain to maintain/keep up to day and as I have more and more platform on which I want to port things to, I am feeling that I am spending more time on the toolchains (like 15 years ago :) instead of doing what I was wanting to do
14:02 < xming> I just wish that the PCs are way faster and kvm has decent smp in the guest :(
14:02 * xming is tired of waiting

19:34 < xming> I get this while compiling psmisc
19:34 < xming> !> checking for i686-t2-linux-uclibc-strip... i686-t2-linux-uclibc-strip
19:34 < xming> !> checking for C++ compiler default output file name...
19:34 < xming> !> configure: error: C++ compiler cannot create executables
19:34 < xming> !> See `config.log' for more details.
19:35 < rxr> other stuff builds?
19:35 < rxr> then you might just have a the C++ run-time lib / STL missing in your package selection
19:36 < xming> I just disabled these
19:36 < xming> - xorg/*
19:36 < xming> - mininet
19:36 < xming> - editors/*
19:36 < xming> which are no gcc pkg involved
19:36 < rxr> just look into the build log or config.log in src.groff.*/grof.../config.log
19:38 < xming> you meant psmisc :)
19:40 < xming> cannot find -lintl
19:40 < rxr> ah - sorry
19:40 < rxr> too much parallel i/o ... :-)
19:41 < xming> cross-over between your io lanes
19:42 < rxr> I think uclibc does not provide libintl and you might thus want to select libiconv IIRC
19:42 < xming> libintl? AFAIK it's not in gettext anymore
19:42 < rxr> hm ?
19:43 < xming> libintl is provided by gettext? no?
19:43 < rxr> IIRC there is something in the C library which uclibc does not ship in contrast to glibc
19:43 < xming> and I don't think that uclibc has any intl/iconv/local thing
19:44 < rxr> http://t2-project.org/packages/libiconv.html
19:44 < xming> ok I don't want that, I don't need unicode, I want plain old 7-bit ascii :)
19:45 < rxr> ok - maybe not libiconv
19:45 < xming> so I need to enable libiconv or disable psmic? right?
19:45 < xming> and does libiconv provides libintl?
19:45 < rxr> but on my regression tester psmisc built for arm-uclibc
19:45 < rxr> build/arm-uclibc-cross-8.0-trunk-generic-arm-gnueabi-cross/var/adm/logs/1-psmisc.log
19:47 < xming> I am building x86-ulibc
19:47 < rxr> yeah - noticed, but I had that one handy :-)
19:47 < xming> there might be #ifdefs thre :)
19:48 < xming> arm people do not need unicode, too bloeated :)
19:48 < rxr> heh - have that one likewise
19:48 < rxr> build/x86-uclibc-cross-8.0-trunk-generic-x86-i486-cross/var/adm/logs/1-psmisc.log
19:49 < rxr> well - iPhone is ARM and handles unicode input and content just fine :-)
19:51 < xming> well what can I say? T2 is your pet, it listen to you :)
19:51 < rxr> of course it is up to the distribution creationr, like you, to chose what to include in the build or not ...
19:51 < rxr> just wanted to point out that ARM does not necessairly equal to "few feature or so" ...
19:52 < xming> ok it was meant as a joke about how arm people look at x86, waste of energy/space/ram/...
19:54 < xming> oh I have an other question
19:55 < xming> those packages are for building, once I have build a .iso say "version 1" install on a device, and 2 weeks later I have .iso "version 2" can I upgrade that device? Is there binary pkg management?
20:01 < rxr> yes, however most embedded device people tend to build their own "binary diff of firmware JFFS" without package granularity on their own
20:02 < xming> so there is bin pkg management?
20:02 < xming> which one (name of the pkg)?
20:05 < rxr> mine, inherited from ROCK Linux times, planned to be rewritten
20:06 < rxr> we primarily use tar.{bz2,gz,...} for distribution
20:07 < xming> but there is a package containing the pkg management, what is it called?
20:07 < rxr> mine
20:07 < xming> or I mean which pkg should I instllaed to get that?
20:07 < xming> ah
20:07 < xming> it's called "mine" it's not mine/yours/his :)
