18:07 < rxr> hi Baldzius
18:08 < Baldzius> hi rxr
18:17 < rxr> Baldzius: just swapped the 4 new RAID discs some hours ago - backup took longer than I wanted
18:17 < Baldzius> ic
18:18 < rxr> unfortunately the FS performance in general bugs me and I now do some little testing to know which fs to use for sure on my main volumes
18:18 < rxr> when would you want to use your VM next? I hope not now :-) *g*?
18:25 < Baldzius> i can wait
18:25 < Baldzius> not a big issue for me currently
18:25 < Baldzius> to do some FS related tests is always a good idea :)
18:27 < rxr> your last vm was on a spare partition, your new FS root will be on an own lvm volume
18:33 < rxr> ok - I guess I use XFS again
18:34 < rxr> and I guess I write some fs benchmarking script some other night
18:34 < rxr> because those tests with reasonable data sets just take too long to watch and I need more data
18:34 < rxr> unbelivable how few useful linux fs benchmarks you find on the net via google ...
18:38 < Baldzius> i guess it's really specific, for my self i found JFS the best FS even if found everyone saying that it's the slowest one
18:39 < rxr> creating 100000 files is twice as slow as on XFS on my RAID5 volume ...
18:39 < rxr> 4m vs. 2m
18:39 < rxr> whiel deleting those created files JFS is a little faster than the slowest XFS: 2:40 vs 2:57
18:39 < rxr> reiserfs3 is fastest mostly, however it's commit storms under high load get on my nerves
18:39 < rxr> interactivity really is bad then
18:40 < rxr> however, I think I'll script some fs tortouring on another box another day to get some nice article with pretty diagrams
18:44 < rxr> reiser3 deletes those 100000 files in just 3.7 seconds
18:44 < rxr> compared to the 2m for XFS and JFS ...
18:45 < rxr> good thing is I have single volumes, like /home t2-builer your vm etc.
18:45 < rxr> so I can reformat single ones, once performance sucks too much ...

18:56 < rxr> with the test beeing on a 250G or so logical volume on it ...

19:21 < rxr> Baldzius: so - restoring your vz, on ext3 for now
19:22 < Baldzius> good :)

19:43 < Baldzius> perfect :)
