19:18 < rxr> moin moin LMJ
19:18 < LMJ> how are you rxr ?
19:18 < Stelz> moin LMJ
19:18 < LMJ> moin sparc-kly
19:18 < LMJ> damned
19:18 < Stelz> :>>
19:18 < LMJ> Stelz ;)
19:18 < Stelz> ;0
19:20 < rxr> LMJ: how are you ?
19:20 < LMJ> pretty fine, wasted my weekend sleeping & eating ;)
19:22 < LMJ> and you ?
19:28 < rxr> oh - fine too
19:28 < rxr> had been 2 days extern at companies, 3 days next week ...
19:28 < LMJ> i saw an initial annoucement on freshmeat you did
19:29 < rxr> and the remaining days readying our closed source OS X product new version for delivery ...
19:29 < LMJ> macOs X scanner stuff
19:29 < rxr> yeah - we do this for a year now along the lines
19:30 < rxr> but start to promote it a bit more these days so all the work hopefully, eventually pays off ...
19:30 < LMJ> you sell it ?
19:30 < rxr> for OS X, yes
19:30 < rxr> I do not do commercial OS stuff for the fun of it
19:30 < rxr> actually it is no fun at all ...
19:30 < _Ragnar_> I bet
19:31 < rxr> but I do the Open Source SANE implementation since 1996 or so ..
19:31 < rxr> http://www.exactcode.de/oss/avision/
19:31 < LMJ> you work on SANE ?
19:31 < rxr> yeah
19:31 < rxr> wrote a full backend from scratch in the 90th
19:31 < rxr> it is over 6000 lines of code now
19:31 < rxr> and support neearly 90 different scanners
19:32 < rxr> (all from the same company delivering to other OEM partners ...)
19:32 < rxr> the list is here: http://www.exactcode.de/oss/avision/devices.html
19:32 < LMJ> damned
19:32 < LMJ> dude
19:32 < LMJ> how many line of code are you pissing each day ?
19:32 < rxr> the OS X stuff you saw scrolling by is the same polished for OS X and a OS X only programm dedicated for it
19:33 < rxr> but you can have the same functionality (-- the custom applicatoin) with said SANE backend and my exact-image library
19:33 < rxr> http://www.exactcode.de/oss/exact-image/
19:33 < LMJ> I only have a Epson Perfection 1250 photo here
19:34 < rxr> exact-image allows automatic (inteligent) thresholding to b/w (e.g. for space efficent document archival) and allows detecting blank pages
19:34 < LMJ> what is your development environement tool ?
19:34 < rxr> LMJ: heh - sorry, that is not silicon that can be driver by the backend I wrote ...
19:34 < rxr> development tool ? you mean the IDE on OS X ?
19:34 < LMJ> on osX & linux ?
19:35 < LMJ> don't tell me vi or vim ;)
19:36 < rxr> well on Linux I'm not that picky - I use the best of all worlds, that is XEmacs for big files, Vim for not that big files but also e.g. KDE's kate when the file browser or so opens it due to MIME binding
19:36 < rxr> on OS X I sue XCode ... - it is not perfect but ok - at least way better than M$ stuff
19:37 < rxr> since gdb can barely be called a debugger I do not have a good debugger on linux, but valgrind and co fill some shortcommings ...
19:37 < rxr> suprisingly the Apple patched up gdb on OS X works a bit better ....
19:38 < LMJ> i tested valgrind some days ago
19:39 < LMJ> to debug why sylpheed-claws crashed all around when i moved emails from an IMAP folder to another IMAP mailbox folder
19:43 < rxr> and, did it reavel something ?
19:45 < LMJ> something nasty on the GTK side i think
19:45 < LMJ> I just pasted the output to sylpheed guys
19:46 < CIA-9> rene * r21215 /trunk/package/develop/libcoyotl/ (. libcoyotl.cache libcoyotl.desc): * added libcoyotl (3.2.0) - A Collection of "Interesting" Classes
19:49 < rxr> LMJ: btw. despite some OS X activity you do not have to fear this will mean degration of T2 conribution
19:49 < rxr> we already do this for over 1 1/2 years now ...
19:49 < LMJ> no problem ;)
19:49 < rxr> it is just one thing of our business ...
19:49 < LMJ> I saw T2 6.0.2
19:50 < rxr> in fact there are some great, major things comming to t2
19:50 < LMJ> I've posted a news on UCC.fr
19:50 < rxr> including a officially printed handbook next year buy a publisher ...
19:50 < LMJ> maybe i will host also the stable repository
19:50 < LMJ> good
19:50 < LMJ> seriously
19:50 < LMJ> about the website
19:51 < LMJ> you added a bug tracker : good
19:52 < LMJ> but I personaly think that T2 need more then a static website + a bug tracker
19:53 < LMJ> depending of your future vision of T2
19:54 < rxr> sure and active, friendly colaborating community is needed as well .-)
19:54 < rxr> so far it looks quite good, constantly increasing I would say
19:54 < rxr> did you just meant a better, more dynamic homepage ?
19:55 < rxr> btw - could you include some form of a link to the t2-homepage to your news?
19:56 < rxr> not only would that help users to find it - it would also make your side show up in our webstats :-)
19:56 < LMJ> We should have (at least) a wiki splitted in 2 parts : a wiki to improve an "official documentation" and a HOWTO Wiki with topic like "creation a distro for your home" with extra linux advices, HOWTO setup Samba+OpenLDAP with T2, etc... But maybe you think it's out of the scope of T2 but i'm scared regular people will never try T2 because there is not help around
19:57 < rxr> of course
19:58 < rxr> for now the trac issue tracker even has a wiki
19:58 < LMJ> yes
19:58 < rxr> it could be explored now, already
19:58 < rxr> and the homepage is also writable for multiple people
19:58 < rxr> sad thing is most people do not care too much about extending documentation
19:59 < LMJ> you showed me a beta homepage done with a CMS, i can't remember the name
19:59 < rxr> do you think integrating a wiki more into the main homepage will attract more people actually editing it ?
20:00 < rxr> another concern is that we have then 3 different documentatoins: the homepage, the wiki and the handbook
20:00 < rxr> it will become quite cumbersome to keep them all in sync
20:00 < LMJ> I think the TRAC wiki is only good when your website is dedicated to trac
20:01 < LMJ> hum
20:01 < CIA-9> rene * r21216 /trunk/package/develop/libevocosm/ (. compile.patch.libevocosm libevocosm.cache libevocosm.desc): * added libevocosm (3.2.0) - A C++ framework for evolutionary computing and genetic algorithms
20:01 < LMJ> Docs should be done in XML, ... i don't Wiki who works on XML
20:04 < rxr> true
20:04 < rxr> that could help basing the handbook on the wiki or so
20:04 < rxr> I'm always very open to improvements in communication and pr and the like
20:05 < LMJ> i don't know if Wiki output could be Print quality
20:05 < rxr> one could do some XSLT wiki-xml -> docbook xml translation ...
20:06 < rxr> just drop a note about idea you have or what area you want to work on - e.g. setup testspins and the like
20:06 < LMJ> drop where ?
20:06 < LMJ> on the ML ?
20:06 < rxr> here, like now - the list, or to me
20:06 < LMJ> yes
20:07 < LMJ> i'm very interested on the Web side of T2, promote it
20:08 < LMJ> of course, extra web stuff could look like a commercial approach, but you have to communicate to attrack people : newbie will come, but it could be very good programmers who can improve T2
20:09 -!- mtr_ [n=Michael@pD9E11C16.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has joined #t2
20:10 < rxr> LMJ: do you want a http://www.ucc.fr/ link on www.t2-project.org/startpage ?
20:13 < LMJ> ho yes, why not
20:13 < LMJ> I could share a "2D/3D/Video Graphic oriented T2 Target" with the UCC name
20:14 < CIA-9> rene * r21217 /trunk/package/develop/libcoyotl/libcoyotl.desc: * downdated libcoyotl (3.2.0 -> 3.1.0), because Acovea does not build with 3.2.0 ...
20:14 < LMJ> Sepp could be a great help on this side, i know more then me
20:14 < LMJ> he knows*
20:14 < CIA-9> rene * r21218 /trunk/package/develop/libevocosm/ (compile.patch.libevocosm libevocosm.desc): * updated libevocosm (3.2.0 -> 3.1.0), because Acovea does not build with 3.2.0 ...

20:16 < rxr> LMJ: ok - link added
20:16 < LMJ> thanks
20:16 < LMJ> gonna update the static news
